Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am2 Champion graduates to Pro-Am1 for 2016

With less than an hour to go until the first round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season, Redline Racing have announced that 2015 Pro-Am2 category Champion John McCullagh (33) will step up to contest the Pro-Am1 category for 2016.

John McCullagh, the ever cheerful 52-year-old from North Yorkshire, explained: ”At the start of this year I was looking forward to building on my rookie season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and defending last year’s Pro-Am2 title in the Inlec backed car with Redline Racing. However, with the help and encouragement of my Pro category team mate, 20-year-old Porsche Scholar Charlie Eastwood, and the whole team at Redline Racing, we have worked hard to raise my game.

“After progressing into the Porsche Carrera Cup GB from Porsche club racing and winning the Pro-Am2 category in 2015, this move is a logical step - although we’ve just raised the bar even higher! I am up for it and we had a great qualifying, now starting third in Pro-Am1. I enjoy hard work and can’t wait for the new challenge, to get out there and stuck in with the young and rising stars.”

Team principal Simon Leonard commented: "Pro-Am2 is traditionally a category for gentlemen drivers like John. However, following a solid performance in pre-season testing and through his own preparations, he is proving that he can mix it with best by his blistering pace in qualifying this weekend. John took a 0.7 second advantage over his nearest rival and was only half a second behind Dan Cammish on pole, which meant we needed to seriously consider the options.”

McCullagh follows Euan McKay (IN2 Racing) and Peter Jennings (G-Cat Racing) into the Pro-Am1 category, joining Sean Hudspeth (Parr Motorsport), Justin Sherwood (Team Parker Racing) and Dan McKay (IN2 Racing).
