Since 1 August 2009, Porsche Classic has been responsible for the Porsche 911 type 993. This means that Porsche Classic handles the supply of genuine parts, the provision of technical literature as well as the maintenance and restoration for the last 911 with air-cooled engine, the car that celebrated its premiere as the Carrera Coupé at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1993. Many other model versions followed, some of which were still being built in model year 1998.
The 993 had a very different appearance from its predecessors. A number of technical innovations were hidden by its body, and both safety and environmental considerations such as noise and exhaust features and the use of recyclable materials played a significant role in its design. Of course, driving pleasure also received its due. The performance of the mechanically and electronically redesigned flat-six engines ranged from the 272 bhp of the 911 Carrera up to the 544 bhp of the GT1, which had a very exclusive limited production run.
