As wireless technology continues to evolve, telecommunications providers in North America, including AT&T are transitioning from their legacy 3G wireless communication to the much more advanced 5G technology. In order to free up resources for the 5G services, telecommunication providers are turning down their 3G networks, also called 3G sunset.

This means that by February 22, 2022, any device, including hardware found within certain Porsche vehicles operating on the AT&T 3G network will no longer have an active connection and will be unable to transmit or receive data.

3G Wireless Network Turndown FAQs

1. When does this go into effect?

AT&T will turn down its 3G network on February 22, 2022.

2. Is my vehicle affected?

You will receive additional information from Porsche. Some vehicles may be eligible for a technology upgrade to maintain Connect functionality.

Porsche vehicles with model and model years listed below utilize AT&T’s 3G wireless communication for certain Connect services. These services include all Porsche Car Connect services provided by Vodafone as well as Porsche offered Remote, Safety, and Security services. You will soon receive additional information from Porsche via email. Some vehicles may be eligible for a technology upgrade to maintain Connect functionality.

*Standard or optional equipment of Connect or Connect Plus. All Vodafone offered Car Connect services are impacted. Navigation & Infotainment services will not be affected and will continue to work beyond the 3G Wireless Network Turndown.

**Some MY2019 Cayenne models. Porsche offered Remote, Safety, and Security services are impacted. Navigation & Infotainment services will not be affected and will continue to work beyond the 3G Wireless Network Turndown.

3. My Connect trial or paid subscription expires after February 22, 2022. How will this change affect me?

You will receive additional information from Porsche. Some vehicles may be eligible for a technology upgrade to maintain connect functionality.

4. My Connect trial or paid subscription contract expires before February 22, 2022. Will I be able to use my services until then?

If you currently have an active contract that expires on or before February 22, 2022, your services will continue until contract expiration.

5. Can a customer upgrade their vehicle to newer technology that would support Porsche Car Connect as well as Porsche Connect Remote, Safety, and Security services?

Not all affected Porsche vehicles will be eligible for a technology upgrade. Customers will be notified via email whether their vehicles are eligible for an upgrade or not.

6. I received an email informing me that my vehicle is eligible for a technology upgrade. What are my next steps?

If you received an email stating that your vehicle is eligible for a technology upgrade, please schedule an appointment with your authorized Porsche dealer to perform the upgrade for your vehicle before February 22, 2022 to maintain Connect functionality.
