Rome – the ‘Eternal City’ and capital of Italy, once the centre of the Roman Empire. A city of art and culture with an incomparable history. In addition to an exclusive driving experience in the southern Lazio region, the Porsche Travel Club offers you an unforgettable day of culture in Rome.

The two day driving itinerary in southern Lazio with its magnificent countryside, historically significant locations and traditional viniculture features a number of highlights as well as plenty of pleasure at the wheel. The main attractions include a visit to the gardens of Villa Barberini in Castel Gandolfo and an enjoyable drive along the Thyrrenian coast and winding mountain roads further inland.

Furthermore, you’ll be treated to an outstanding day full of cultural highlights in the city of Rome. You’ll visit the papal gardens at the Vatican as well as the Necropolis on the Via Triumphalis, which was excavated just a few years ago. You are then free to spend the rest of the afternoon as you please, exploring the historic centre of Rome at your leisure, for example, or browsing the city’s many chic boutiques. In the evening, you can enjoy a private visit to the Vatican Museums, outside official opening hours – in a small group limited to 40 people. This exclusive guided tour is immediately followed by yet another highlight: a concert in the Sistine Chapel before dinner in the midst of the exhibition. An extraordinary experience – on a par with all the other magical moments during this day.

Day 1
Rome

Arrive at Rome airport, where you will be greeted and taken to the Gran Meliá Villa Agrippina Hotel in the heart of the Eternal City. The Vatican, Piazza Navona and Castel Sant'Angelo are all just a short walk from the hotel, and yet you will find yourself in an oasis of tranquillity. In the evening, savour true Italian cuisine at a typical Roman ristorante.

Day 2
Rome – Lago di Fogliano – Fiuggi

The next morning, it’s finally time to transfer by bus to the Porsche Centre to collect your vehicle. The route then takes you south to Castel Gandolfo where you’ll visit the gardens of the Villa Barberini, used by popes as a summer retreat since the 17th century. In addition to the well-tended gardens, you can admire the ruins of the thermal baths, an underground walkway, remains of a theatre and a marble equestrian statue from the days of the Roman Empire.

After a short visit, it’s time to take to the wheel again and head north around Lago Albano, which was created by several volcanic eruptions many hundreds of thousands of years ago. The perfect place for a brief stop-off – and, of course, a few holiday snaps. The tour then continues on winding country roads around the Monte Lepini to Cori, one of Italy’s oldest towns. Particularly impressive are the very well preserved town walls and the Temple of Hercules dating from the 1st century BC. Afterwards, you continue to Norma. This is the ideal place for stopping briefly to capture some magnificent sea views on camera, before driving down to the coast in your Porsche. Relax over lunch right on the coast in Lago di Fogliano with a chance to review the experiences of the morning.

The final location on today’s leg of the tour is Fiuggi. The route there is particularly winding and therefore promises plenty of driving pleasure along the way. Firstly, you head east along the coast to Fondi. You then cross the Ausoni Mountains, passing Vallecorsa, Ceccano and through the Lago di Canterno National Park to your destination for the night: the Grand Hotel Palazzo della Fonte. Spend the rest of the afternoon as you please, relaxing in the spacious spa, for example, before dinner in the hotel restaurant in the evening.

Day 3
Fiuggi – Veroli – Rome

The second day of driving also has some delights in store. What awaits you are a number of bends on the route through the Ernici Mountains. The tour then takes you through Guarcino and Vico nel Lazio, along small meandering mountain roads and past Sora. Stop off briefly in Isola del Liri. The waterfall in the heart of the town simply has to be seen, as does the Abbazia di Casamari – a medieval abbey. Towards noon, you arrive in Veroli. After a short stroll through the town, enjoy lunch at the Domus Hernica restaurant – a veritable paradise for any gourmet. Culinary treats are followed by motoring ones on the drive past Fumone – an important Roman outpost in the days of Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The route then continues along the Via Casalina, stopping off near Segni for another fantastic photo opportunity. Finally, you head back to Rome along the Via Appia.

Spend the night again at the Gran Meliá Villa Agrippina Hotel. If you have opted for the second travel date, this will be your first evening – after individual arrival and collection from the airport – on which you join all tour participants in the hotel restaurant. Naturally, the second tour date also includes two days of driving in a Porsche, as described above. However, these follow on from the joint programme in Rome.

Day 4
Day of culture in Rome

In the morning, in addition to the papal gardens, you also have a special opportunity to visit the Necropolis on the Via Triumphalis, which was only uncovered a few years ago. This archaeological site extends right under Vatican Hill.

You are free to spend the afternoon exploring the centre of Rome under your own steam. Visit impressive sights such as the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Colosseum or browse the elegant boutiques along the Via dei Condotti and Via del Corso with their many side streets.

In the evening, another cultural highlight awaits: a private visit to the Vatican Museums – outside official opening hours. In a small group limited to just 40 people, you can admire the art treasures of one of the most extensive and important collections in the world. This exclusive guided tour is followed by yet another highlight: a magnificent concert in the Sistine Chapel with its ceiling frescoes painted by Michelangelo. A gala dinner is then served in the midst of the exhibition – surrounded by masterpieces by world-famous artists such as Michelangelo and Raphael. A fitting conclusion to an eventful day packed full of unique experiences and unforgettable moments.

Day 5
Rome

Unfortunately, it’s now time to leave the Eternal City behind. However, you’ll go home with a wealth of lasting memories to draw upon. If you have opted for the later travel date, you still have two days of driving ahead of you as described above (days 2 and 3).
