Already a month after its completion, the Porsche 356 No. 1, the first Porsche at all, won its class in a street race in Innsbruck, Austria. In 1951, the Porsche 356 Alu-Coupe achieved the first Le Mans class victory with impressing lap averages of 145 km/h. This time marks the beginning of pure motor sports passion. Porsche lists more than 30.000 race victories in almost every motor sports series worldwide.
However, Porsche develops race cars and prototypes not only for its own but also for further internationally significant racing series. The highest goal is to win races and to learn for the development of production vehicles. Porsche develops competitive race cars to make Porsche customer teams successful. And Porsche supports its customers at the race track technically and organizationally. Porsche Motorsport brings the myths of the Porsche brand to the race tracks.
With the start of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in 1990, Porsche realized the idea of an own racing series around the sports car legend 911 thus also strengthening customer sports. In this racing series as well as in the 7 further international Porsche Carrera Cups and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Porsche offers absolutely equal opportunities. Teams and race drivers compete under the same technical conditions.
Like every Porsche, our racing cars will be developed according to the principle of “Porsche Intelligent Performance”: more power on less fuel, greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.

During the Geneva Motor Show, a Porsche 911 GT3 R with innovative hybrid drive was making its debut and opened up a new chapter in the history of Porsche in 45 years scored by the extremely successful Porsche 911 in racing trim.
Further developed for season 2011, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid features an innovative hybrid technology, that has been developed especially for racing. It stands out significantly in its configuration and components from conventional hybrid systems. The 465-bhp four-litre flat-six at the rear of race car is supplemented by an electrical front axle drive with two electric motors developing 75 kW each.
With the new 918 RSR racing laboratory, Porsche is now elevating this motor racing hybrid concept to an experimental level. In the 918 RSR, "Porsche Intelligent Performance" equates to research into methods for further sustainable efficiency improvement under the intensified conditions of the race track, lap times, pit stops and reliability – that metier in which Porsche has been demonstrating its success for over 60 years.
Instead of testing and developing in private and dfiddle about through years, Porsche has chosen a different path: The testing of this new technology under real conditions, on the biggest stages imaginable: The race tracks of the world.
