Experienced team to oversee Carrera Cup in 2013Cameron McConville and Peter Fitzgerald appointed to new roles for 2013 Porsche season
Two of Australia’s most respected motor racing personalities, Cameron McConville and Peter Fitzgerald, will oversee the on-track competition throughout this season’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championship.
McConville, who was the Driving Standards Advisor for the past two Porsche Carrera Cup Australia seasons, has been appointed as the new Race Director for the all-Porsche category.
This announcement follows McConville’s recent confirmation as the new Driving Standards Advisor for the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship.
Fitzgerald, a former Porsche Carrera Cup Australia driver and championship-winning Team Manager, will replace McConville as the new Driving Standards Advisor for the Porsche championship, and is thrilled to continue his long association with Porsche.
“I’ve been involved with Porsche for around 40 years so I’m very pleased to continue this relationship into 2013,” said Fitzgerald.
“I’ve always considered Carrera Cup as the pinnacle of motorsport that I’ve been involved with and I’m happy to return to the category, this time in quite a different role than I was in previously.
“I’ve been around quite a while so I know all the tricks that a driver can try to pull; I’ve probably tried most of them myself in the past. I’m well equipped for the job and I’m looking forward to returning to Carrera Cup later this month for the Clipsal 500.”
Fitzgerald competed in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia from its inaugural season in 2003 to the end of 2006, in which time he achieved two race wins, four fastest laps and 13 top-three finishes from 90 race starts.
Fitzgerald continued his success as a Team Manager, winning the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia title with driver Craig Baird.
Chris McMahon will remain in his role of Investigating and Prosecuting Officer for the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia season.
McConville and Fitzgerald will start in their respective new roles with Porsche Carrera Cup Australia at the season-opening Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide, South Australia, on February 28 to March 03, 2013.
