Origin

The new Porsche 911 RSR is the result of passion, spirit of engineering, tradition and craftsmanship. It is the spearhead of the 911 family and has a single goal: to master the challenges in international GT endurance racing.

It is crafted in the Porsche Research and Development Centre in Weissach and the Motorsport Centre in Flacht. Each component is perfectly coordinated before it follows its calling: endurance races on the most challenging race tracks in the world.

The powerful appearance of the new 911 RSR is not just a matter of chance. Each centimetre of its body has been tailored to the uncompromising standards of GT endurance racing. A product of legendary experience.

As a representative of the Porsche 911 family, motor sports are an important part of its DNA. Despite the sharper contours, it is immediately identifiable as a Porsche 911. The principles for its success are based not only on superior performance, but on an intelligent overall concept. Developed and honed for the requirements of every race. And with every metre it gains new experiences.

Concept

With the new 911 RSR, we are giving new expression to Fascination Sports Car. A racing car where each individual component, each function and each characteristic serves to achieve a sophisticated overall concept. Inside and out. Apparent contradictions are combined in perfect harmony: safety and lightweight construction. Efficiency and power. Performance and endurance.

In other words: greater aerodynamic efficiency, greater safety than ever before and better orientation of the driver. Combined with repair and service efficiency that permits faster repairs as well as the replacement of entire body segments.

Drive

A suspended rear wing, the extended rear diffuser and new side mirrors help the new 911 RSR to increase downforce with reduced drag.

The heart of the super sports car is the 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat engine with direct fuel injection. Shifted well forwards and installed in a rotated position for the first time, it improves the dynamic handling characteristics and increases the setup options offered by the vehicle. The new 6-speed claw shifted transmission with magnesium housing and electromechanical shift mechanism complements the drive with shorter shifting times and minimises any disruptive factors during gear changes. The result is improved handling and increased reliability of the overall drive train.

Safety

The new 911 RSR has a fundamentally revised safety concept: The new bucket seat has been shifted further inwards to offer the driver added protection in the event of a collision. Together with the newly developed safety cage, this makes the racing car safer than ever before.

The 911 RSR is also the first Porsche GT endurance racing car to feature an electronic collision avoidance system. This provides for a better overview in the heat of the action.

Our mission? To build the sports car of the future. That is why we are bringing a Porsche 911 back to where it was born. On the race track.

The Porsche 911 models represent a long history of countless successes. But we won’t be resting on our laurels. The new Porsche 911 RSR knows no compromise – as it is set to prove in a full field in 2017. In action for our factory teams. In the toughest long-distance series in the world: the FIA WEC including its showpiece event, the 24h of Le Mans, as well as the IWSC in North America. For us, even the spearhead of the family must endure over thousands of kilometres to prove that it has earned the right to wear the digits 911.
