Shanghai/Liangshan. Upholding its future-oriented sustainable development strategy, Porsche China opened a new chapter of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in 2018—launching “Porsche China Dealer CSR Fund” to motivate Porsche China dealers and investors to participate in CSR practices. The establishment of the fund represents an effort to build Porsche “Empowering the Future” into a long-term CSR platform that aggregates the strengths of stakeholders and philanthropists. On November 23, Porsche China, Taizhou Phoenix Porsche Centre and several media representatives visited one of the beneficiaries of the CSR Fund—Sichuan Liangshan Prefecture Wawu Primary School—and donated sports education supplies. This programme will also donate funds to build a football pitch for the school to improve its physical education in order to help facilitate the students' all-round physical and mental development.

CSR is one of the key areas under Porsche Strategy 2025. For years, Porsche China has been actively engaged in CSR to boost social development. “While engaging in CSR, we have been exploring a public service model with farther-reaching influence, and thinking of how to motivate more far-sighted people to participate in charity programmes and how to benefit those people in need of help, with more types of CSR programmes reaching more regions,” said Ms. Jojo Tang, Vice President of Public Relations and Press of Porsche China. “Therefore, we launched ‘Porsche China Dealer CSR Fund’ as a platform to aggregate the love and strength of all stakeholders, including our dealer partners and investor partners, to continuously create greater social benefits and empower the future.”

In May 2018, Porsche China invested RMB 2 million as initial funding for “Porsche China Dealer CSR Fund.” After a series of fair, impartial internal audits and third party appraisals, the programmes to be funded and the allocation of funds will be determined by Porsche China CSR Committee. This Fund encourages Porsche China dealers and charity partners to establish and develop local CSR and charity programmes cooperatively, and then apply for funds from Porsche China. Porsche China and third party institutions will perform multiple rounds of audits on the programmes submitted by the dealers according to various appraisal standards, such as programme type, implementation, programme objectives, beneficiaries, influence scope and charity partners. Finally, Porsche China CSR Committee members will vote to select the programmes to be funded. During the programme execution period, dealers will communicate and coordinate with the charity organizations and beneficiaries, and supervise the execution of the programmes. Dealers can also invite their employees, Porsche car owners and other stakeholders in local communities to participate in the CSR events. Once a programme is completed, Porsche China CSR Committee will evaluate it.

Since the project was launched, it has received enthusiastic responses from Porsche China dealers. And after several rounds of review, the first six programmes received an intention of support are: “Stepping Stones English Curriculum & Management System Development” programme of Shanghai Puxi/Minhang Porsche Centre, “Porsche Charity Forest” programme of Hangzhou West Lake Porsche Centre, “Donate Winter Packages to Rural Area Kids” programme of Xi’an Gaoxin Porsche Centre, “Tuition Fee Support & Automotive Science Laboratories” programme of Wuxi Porsche Centre, “Children’s Happy Home Package Donation” programme of Luoyang Porsche Centre, and “Build Playgrounds for Rural Area Schools” programme of Taizhou Phoenix Porsche Centre. Their charity partners include Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Shaanxi Youth Development Foundation, Wuxi Lingshan Charity Foundation, China Children and Teenagers' Fund, and Nanjing Jiangning Elephants Public Welfare Service Centre. The six programmes will benefit some 15,000 people in Shanghai, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Henan and Sichuan, and afforest about 33 acres of desert areas.

One of the beneficiaries of the programme submitted by Taizhou Phoenix Porsche Centre is Wawu Primary School in Abingluogu Town, Zhaojue County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan. The roads to the school, which is at an elevation of 2,800m, are extremely rugged and complicated. The New Porsche Cayenne models driven by Porsche China and various other representatives easily navigated the tough mountain roads with their outstanding off-road performance to bring care and support to the remote rural school. Previously, the Porsche Cayenne was also used as a mobile service vehicle for the Porsche “Empowering the Future” Mobile Educational Training and Resource Units (METRU) programme and Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) programme, to transport training instructors and educational resources, and to deliver crucial health examinations and social aids to children who needed them.

“As a dealer of Porsche China, we have been adhering to the CSR concepts of Porsche,” said Mr. Zhang Li, General Manager of Taizhou Phoenix Porsche Centre. “We applied for the ‘Porsche China Dealer CSR Fund’ as soon as we heard of the news. By donating and building sports fields for the children in mountain villages, we hope that they can receive more comprehensive physical education and improve their physical quality with diverse sports, so as to create a more beautiful future.”

Youth and child care has always been one of the core CSR practices of Porsche China. In 2008, Porsche China donated its first charity money to the children affected by the Wenchuan Earthquake. It later initiated “Empowering the Future,” a CSR programme dedicated to improving children’s education and early comprehensive development conditions in China’s remote areas and boosting the cultivation of young Chinese arts talents. “The launch of ‘Porsche China Dealer CSR Fund’ signifies that the CSR of Porsche China has come to a new stage. We hope to cultivate and fund a variety of programmes and bring active social influence to the communities where Porsche dealers operate,” said Ms. Jojo Tang. “In the future, Porsche China will continue to work with more like-minded partners to boost social development harmoniously with multi-dimensional practices.”
