World's first LEED Platinum certified Porsche Centre – Porsche Centre Haining celebrates its grand opening Implementing net carbon neutrality targets and continuously upgrading the dealer network

• The first Porsche Centre in Haining is now officially opened, coinciding with its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification ceremony.

• Aiming to implement a green building concept, Porsche Centre Haining can effectively reduce energy consumption by approximately 45 per cent per year, equivalent to a 50 per cent reduction in carbon emissions compared with a similar size Porsche Centre without sustainable measures.

Porsche will continue to pursue its sustainability strategy at the retail level and move steadfastly towards the goal of net carbon neutrality.

Shanghai/Haining.On 27 March 2023, Haining welcomed the city's first Porsche Centre, Porsche Centre Haining. The Centre was awarded LEED Platinum certification, which is the highest certification honour awarded by this international green building and city rating system. In addition, Porsche Centre Haining was built to conform to the “Destination Porsche” specifications, representing a new design concept, enhanced customer experience and a digital lifestyle.

Located in Haining, Zhejiang Province, Porsche Centre Haining’s opening not only brings convenience to car owners and Porsche enthusiasts in Haining and the surrounding areas, but also further reflects the increasing improvement of the Porsche dealer network and highlights the importance Porsche attaches to the Region Central market.

With a total area of 7,952 square meters, the modern showroom can accommodate 10 sports cars simultaneously, ably showcasing Porsche’s full model range, while the well-equipped after-sales workshop provides 11 work bays and one direct dialogue bay. At the same time, the comfortable and luxurious lounge and reception areas ensure that every Porsche consumer can enjoy top-notch service. Porsche customisation and merchandise areas are also available, providing Porsche owners with a welcoming space to make their individual choices. Porsche Centre Haining is equipped with Porsche's global standard inspection and repair facilities, and its experienced and professional service team will provide comprehensive advice and services to each and every customer.

A comprehensive green building benchmark

As the first Porsche Centre to receive the highest LEED certification, Porsche Centre Haining was always envisioned as a sustainability concept. Since the construction began, it has taken full consideration for the principles of energy efficiency and environmental protection in terms of energy, water, materials and other aspects, to maximise green building potential. For instance, the Centre has installed a solar photovoltaic system that meets its electricity consumption needs while also allowing for reverse power transmission to the national grid during low periods of electricity consumption; the use of an advanced ground-source heat pump system effectively reduces energy consumption by about 30% compared with a traditional Porsche Centre; rainwater and waste water are effectively collected and recycled through the rain water recycling system, reducing water consumption by approximately 38% per year; sustainable concepts were also applied to the selection of building materials: highly reflective materials were used to improve the sunlight reflection rate and minimise the heat island effect, thereby effectively reducing indoor and road surface temperature by 2 ̊C - 3 ̊C and lowering lighting requirements by about 40%. Moreover, the Centre’s rooftop sky garden and plant wall both reflect light and heat, reducing air conditioning power consumption while enhancing the customer experience.

It is estimated that by implementing all of the initiatives required to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the building uses about 45% less energy (equivalent to around 457,170 kwh) per year compared with a similar size Porsche Centre without sustainable measures, corresponding to an annual reduction in carbon emissions of nearly 50% (equivalent to approximately 300 tons).

At the ceremony, Mr. Michael Kirsch, President and CEO of Porsche China, congratulated Porsche Centre Haining on its grand opening: "The opening of Porsche Centre Haining is the result of hard work alongside our long-time partner Jebsen Group. Being recognised by the international green rating system is truly an honour, and will help us to implement our sustainability strategy faster and better, contributing to a greener future for our customers and society." Mr. Hans Michael Jebsen, Chairman of the investor Jebsen Group, also said: "It is a great honour for us to receive the highest level of LEED certification and we look forward to working with Porsche in the future to implement sustainable goals on the road to success and to contribute to the economic development of Haining."

LEED certification is a globally recognised symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership. Developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED has become one of the most widely used green building and city rating systems in the world since its launch in 1998. Projects go through a verification process and earn points that correspond to a level of LEED certification - Certified, Sliver, Gold or Platinum. At the event, Mr. Andy To, Managing Director of USGBC & GBCI North Asia, was invited to award Porsche Centre Haining with the Platinum certification: "Porsche Centre Haining implements a green construction concept in every aspect, which not only creates a better and healthier environment for customers and staff, but is also a testament to Porsche and Jebsen Group's proactive approach to sustainable development strategies. We look forward to future collaborations to promote the sustainable development of the automotive industry."

Deepened and broadened sustainability strategy

Porsche Centre Haining stands as both the embodiment of Porsche's sustainability concept at the retail level, and as a milestone in the advancement of its global sustainability strategy. Porsche has set ambitious targets for sustainability, aiming to achieve net carbon-neutrality across the entire value chain of its vehicles in 2030, including a net carbon-neutral use-phase for future BEV models. Porsche is currently taking active steps to promote net carbon neutrality across the product development, supply chain, production process and use phase.

As one of Porsche's solid partners, Jebsen Group, the investor behind Porsche Centre Haining, is also committed to sustainable development. In 2021, Jebsen Group announced that it had achieved net carbon neutrality across all 20 of its sites in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, as well as its Shanghai office for 2020, making it China’s first net carbon-neutral car dealership group. In the future, Porsche plans to continue its sustainability strategy at the retail level, work with its dealer partners to create more green Porsche Centres that embrace the concept of sustainability with Porsche Centre Haining as a benchmark, and accelerate its net carbon neutrality process.
