As a successful layer of the FIA GT Championship, the FIA GT3 European Championship since its debut year starts with five races throughout Europe as well as the final race in Dubai, UAE.
Also in 2008, up to 54 GT race cars, among them brands like Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, Dodge, Corvette, Ascari and of course Porsche 911 GT3 (997) will battle for the titles on five race week-ends.The new series closes the gap in GT sports and allows affordable racing for non-professional drivers and private teams. Aside of the team and driver's title, a manufacturer's title can be achieved. All race week-ends will be made up of two races, with a maximum duration of one hour each and an obligatory pit stop for driver change during each race, to be made between the 23rd and 37th minute.
In 2007 the Porsche customer teams Tech 9 and Track Speed competed in the FIA GT3 European Championship.
