Andres Vidoza’s engaging video reviews with a focus on technology have earned him a big following worldwide – the 911 GT3 owner gets to know the innovative Porsche Macan electric sportscar
Even relatively recently, automotive technology was limited to a handful of basic driving and safety functions. Today, hi-tech innovations are present in every area of a car – and beyond. For manufacturers like Porsche, always staying several steps ahead is crucial when developing its cars, like the Macan Electric. That’s something that Andres Vidoza knows all about. A video creator – and a Porsche owner himself – Andres has built up a huge following on social media with his engaging deep dives into consumer technology. Grabbing a Macan 4S Electric and heading down to Italy’s beautiful Amalfi coast, Andres spent several days getting to grip with the car’s tech, design and performance in order to deliver his own unique take on it. Who is Andres Vidoza? From Montréal, Canada, Andres Vidoza is a video creator with a big following on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Studying engineering for many years fed into his passion for cars, but after he got into coding, he began working in software – which led to an increasing fascination with tech.

“That’s how my career started – filming myself doing coding videos,” explains Andres. “I began showcasing my journey in starting this company – interacting with the community, doing online coding and using that as a way to get clients and build my reputation.”It quickly led to Andres falling in love with the power of photography and video. Then, one day, a company sent him a gadget to test out in one of his videos. Very soon more companies began reaching out to him with a wide range of tech products for him to review – and Andres soon realised there was a space for creating expertly-crafted, well-scripted and accessible videos about technology with a consumer focus. Today, Andres’ videos might be about a new laptop or smartphone, help someone carry out the perfect desk makeover or, as we’re about to discover, deliver his verdict on the latest cars, particularly through a technological lens.“My audience is about 30-40 per cent real techies, and the rest just people that like cars and a certain amount of tech and lifestyle content,” explains Andres. “We’re a channel that’s more about me talking through my experiences, less about reading a spec sheet. We’re showcasing what tech or a car can do within my everyday life – showing stuff instead of talking about it.”Watch Andres Vidoza’s Porsche Macan Electric YouTube review

What’s great about the Porsche Macan 4S?After arriving in Naples, Andres got to meet the Macan 4S that he was going to get to know well over the next few days – initial impressions very much counted. “The car was in Oak Green Metallic, a Porsche Paint to Sample colour for the Macan,” says Andres. “That colour is so good – to me, it’s the colour. It’s what I would spec a new Porsche in.”Weaving his way out of Naples, grateful for the guiding hand of the PCM system’s sat-nav, Andres headed down into the historic and beautiful Sorrentine Peninsula, with views of the imperious Mt Vesuvius volcano across the bay. From there it was down the Amalfi coast, on roads where two cars barely fit as they pass, cruising through villages and towns that hug this incredibly scenic coastline.“Buses come towards you and everything feels so tight,” says Andres. “But the cool part is that by having all the sensors in the car and with all the cameras giving you these great views when parking, everything is made so much easier. I never felt scared once driving on these roads because it gave me confidence. The Macan is so precise – it still has that Porsche DNA. I really like how I felt at one with the car.” The host of driving and safety technology, like Traffic Jam Assist, come into their own on the Amalfi Coast’s busy urban streets and tourist-packed villages. “I remember stopping on a mountain and wanting to open the door quickly,” says Andres, talking about the Porsche Exit Warning system from Porsche, “but the car has interior lights [called ‘communication lights’, they run across the instrument panel from one door to another] that turn yellow when cars are coming up behind you and red if you try to open the doors. All these little pieces of tech help you keep you safe but also make you feel at ease all the time.”

Sporty looks and ride height in the Macan 4SBack in Montréal, Andres is the owner of a 992 GT3, so he’s very much in tune with how Porsche design draws from its sporty DNA. The Macan may be an SUV but, he says, it plays on that sportiness from all angles, especially when Sports Plus mode is engaged. “I was amazed how sporty it looks,” he says. “It’s not a sedan, but when the ride height drops it’s as close to one as you will see – and with its retractable spoiler, it manages to look even more beautiful.”That breadth of options when choosing ride height also meant that Andres was able to engage in driving on more challenging roads – there are two settings for tackling off-road conditions. “The adjustability of the ride height in the Macan really was a standout for me. It’s like you have several cars in one,” says Andres when describing how by choosing the Offroad II option resulted in the ride height of his Macan being raised by 40mm. Andres’ particular car was installed with the Offroad Design package. This package means that the Macan 4S here was 10mm higher than the standard Macan Electric set-up.Further exploring Porsche tech Back inside the car, Andres highlighted the driver and optional passenger display as another standout feature, mentioning how a passenger can watch a video – perhaps even one of Andres’ YouTube films? – without distracting the driver themselves, as the display dims when the car is moving. But again, it was the seamless syncing of Andres’ own personal tech (in this case, his Android phone) with the Macan that really caught his eye. “Throughout the whole experience with the Macan, everything was so smooth,” he says.

Andres was keen to maximise every aspect of the charging process during his Italian road trip and was intrigued by the ability to set charging targets in the Macan based on your destination. Want to arrive in Naples with 40 per cent charge remaining on your battery? It will calculate your route and speed to do so, maximising your remaining charge and directing you to charging points en route if required, while preheating the battery for an optimal and fast charging experience.“It’s cool not to have to stress about battery life, right?” says Andres. “The tech in the Macan handles all of that so well. I was fascinated by it.” Andres on the next big thing in car techWith his focus on tech, Andres is always looking out for the next big thing to share with consumers. When it comes to car technology, he sees Virtual Reality (VR) as a future growth area. “It would be cool if you’re sitting in your house and put on a set of VR goggles that are linked to your car – and maybe you want to just move it on your driveway,” says Andres. “Maybe your wife is about to arrive home and needs the car moved. And you could do that without getting into the car itself.”Andres’ scenario may sound like a dream today, but such is the rate of growth in VR, maybe it’s not quite as far away as we might think. He points out that Porsche already features Augmented Reality (AR) technology in its cars, like the Macan 4S, in the form of the optional Head-up Display (HUD). This projects a hi-res image in front of the driver on the windscreen with info like driving data, speed warnings, traffic signs, etc. This differs to previous HUD generations because the images appear up to an effective distance of 10 metres. It means that turn arrows at junctions, for example, appear in the correct lane.“AR has already developed so much since the days I was back coding,” says Andres. “People didn’t really know how to use it – but now, things have gotten very interesting.”

As a Porsche driver himself, Andres says the Macan “totally feels like a Porsche – there’s so much power, but you always feel in total control” Photo: Porsche
Andres on driving the Macan and his love for Porsche “I’ve been lucky enough to work with the likes of Apple and Manchester United,” says Andres. “But as someone who loves engineering and technology, Porsche is a brand that has always stoked my passion. It was a dream of mine to own one and now I do. When I take my 911 GT3 to be serviced I go into the back of my dealership, Porsche West Island in Montréal, just to talk about my car with the mechanic and find out how it works, how things are put together.” Being asked to drive a Macan Electric and share his thoughts on it, then, understandably put an ever-bigger grin on Andres’ face. “What was important to me – especially as a car guy, a Porsche guy – is that Porsche have still managed to keep the car feel exactly like a Porsche and not just another electric car,” explains Andres, adding that the Macan 4S he drove handles the power – all 516 PS of it – in a way that’s familiar to him as a driver of a Porsche GT sportscar. “My experiences on the Amalfi Coast taught me that there’s pool of great things that this car can deliver,” says Andres.
