You are looking at a glimpse of the Porsche future. The Mission S is a vision model that offers a look at the evolution of the Porsche design identity. But this is no one-off hypercar – it will be a permanent and versatile addition to the Porsche range. It represents a new, mid-engined super sports car platform, positioned above the 911.Following its world premiere in New York City on 15 October 2026, let’s explore a car that emphasises the importance of the brand’s history while revealing an exciting vision of its future.

What is the Porsche Mission S? The Mission S is a powerful, new, mid-engine super sports car platform featuring a clear design language that’s been inspired by icons of Porsche history. One that Tobias Sühlmann, Head of Style Porsche, describes as the result of a “forward-looking, holistic design strategy”. It’s part of the new ‘Sportwagenschmiede ‘35’ strategy – a strategic realignment driven by “the love for sports cars”. The connection between driver and car has been a guiding spirit for Porsche from the outset. With the Mission S, it’s a connection that feels particularly intense. Three terms set the strategic framework for the next chapter in the evolution of Porsche car design – authentic, consequent and timeless. The result is a design that combines purism, driver-oriented ergonomics and the integration of analogue and digital controls that is forward-looking and deliberate. But while the Mission S is an exciting vision of where Porsche is heading, it’s one that recognises the importance of everything that has come before it. “A Porsche must be recognisable as a Porsche at first glance,” says Dr Michael Leiters, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.Will Porsche build a car like the Mission S, and where does it fit in the range?Importantly, while the Mission S is a dramatic pointer to the future of Porsche, this is no one-off hypercar. It will become, says Dr Leiters, a “permanent and versatile addition” to the Porsche range. Here, it will be positioned above a true automotive icon – the 911. The objective with the Mission S is very clear – the highest level of engineering excellence and maximum flexibility. It’s the latest example of Porsche design and engineering, informed by decades of motorsport experience, innovative and brand-defining technology and forward-looking design.Pictures of the Porsche Mission S

Why was the Mission S revealed in New York? Porsche is a company that treats its future and its history with equal respect. It’s why the location of its unveiling – a pier in Queens, New York – on 15 October 2026 is so poignant. It was 73 years earlier, in 1953, that Porsche revealed a new car to the world using the same Manhattan skyline as its backdrop. Like the Mission S, the 550 Spyder was a visionary mid-engined sportscar. The 550 Spyder, helped by the iconic nature of where it was photographed, is still recognised today as an important factor in the popularity and success of Porsche, not least in the US.The shoot location for the Mission S is no coincidence. It emphasises the importance of its history and the future of design for Porsche.A Porsche in New York: past, present… and future

What does the Mission S look like, and which Porsche icons inspired it?In the exterior design of the Mission S typical Porsche design features have been translated for the future. You can see it in the trademark torpedo front fenders, the iconic Porsche roofline and the ever-dramatic proportions of its sportscar architecture. Flowing forms and surfaces that appear to float lend the Mission S a powerful, technical-looking appearance and help define the performance character of the car.You will spot many references to cars from the pantheon of Porsche history. The round headlights and striking fenders are reminiscent of the 911 while its shut lines, which merge into the light graphics, are a homage to the classic 911 G-Series models. The flat front of the Mission S takes inspiration from the breathtaking GT1 race car and street-legal hypercar of the 1990s. Observe the dynamic roofline beneath the rear wing and it will call to mind the groundbreaking 959 supercar. Another beautiful, technical detail is the cooling fan in the rear section of the Porsche Mission S, which takes its cue from the radiator fan in the all-conquering 917 race car. The standout lightweight wheels are a reinterpretation of the famous dial design of the 928. And the overall proportions are heavily informed by the mid-engine layout of the Mission S, which enabled designers to realise the famous familiar ‘flyline’.Pictures of the Porsche Mission X interior

What is the Mission S interior like? The interior design of the Mission S is a deliberate and focused return to the fundamentals that govern sportscar engineering. As with the exterior, the design incorporates influences from historic Porsche sportscars such as the 550 Spyder and the original Porsche, the 356. There are two defining lines that run across the dashboard and the doors, creating a feeling that you are sitting “deep within the car”. It’s a design that encourages you to focus on the essentials of sportscar driving; clear and timeless. Classic buttons and switches combine with modern, digital displays. The familiar meets the modern, as it does throughout the Mission S. The seatbelt buckle is integrated in the centre panel of the driver and passenger seats in another nod to the car’s sportscar provenance. The seats combine comfort, functionality and motorsport DNA. This is a car where the driver experience is at its heart. Instead of additional displays and functions, the focus is on simplicity, clarity and intuitive operation. Highlights include the characteristic Porsche arrangement of five round instruments behind the steering wheel. The rev counter is at the centre, with an analogue needle and a display positioned behind it. And, depending on the driving mode, the rev counter moves closer to the driver to enhance the pure driving focus even further. The instrument arrangement adapts to the drive mode selected to meet the specific needs of the driver. The colours of the show car – Firn White Metallic, Light Red Metallic, Black Chrome and Special Black in the interior – have been specially developed for the Mission S and reinterpret classic Porsche Motorsport colours in a visual link to the brand’s sporting legacy. Why does the Mission S have no central screen? There is no permanently integrated centre display and a fixed passenger display in the Mission S – a choice that is very deliberate. Instead, there’s a retractable, MagSafe-compatible smartphone system which serves as a navigation or information display when required. In addition, the My Porsche App gives access to all functions and allows drivers to select digitally rendered, historically inspired instrument designs for the circular instruments. Together, it’s another prime example of the intention to focus on the driving experience.Detail pictures of the Porsche Mission S
