Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra honours Pope Benedict XVIPorsche has supported the symphony orchestra since 2011

Stuttgart/Leipzig. It is one of the musical highlights of the season and at the same time a very special birthday present: the Porsche-sponsored Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will be giving a concert in the Vatican Audience Hall this coming Friday (20 April) in honour of Pope Benedict XVI. To mark the Holy Father’s 85th birthday, the Gewandhaus Conductor Riccardo Chailly will direct Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Symphony Cantata “Hymn of Praise”. Singing will be the Gewandhaus Choir, the MDR Radio Choir, soloists Luba Orgonášová and Bernarda Fink (soprano) and Steve Davislim (tenor).

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has supported the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra’s tours and concerts as the main sponsor since the beginning of the 2011/2012 season. The partnership, which is set to run for several years, is a collaboration between two brands that are at home on the world stage as well as in Leipzig. Since production commenced in the Leipzig plant ten years ago, Saxony has developed into the Swabian automotive company’s second home. That is why Porsche wants to take its social responsibility in this location to an even higher level with a broad-based sponsoring concept and is supporting – in addition to the Gewandhaus Orchestra – sports clubs as part of its youth work as well as various scientific and charitable projects.
