1,000th Carrera GT goes to customer in OmanAnother production landmark at Porsche Leipzig GmbH

Stuttgart/Leipzig. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has recently been able to celebrate another production landmark: After having had the 100,000th Cayenne roll off the production line at the plant in Leipzig at the beginning of June, the 1,000th Carrera GT, the high performance sports car, has now also been completed. This silver vehicle is destined for a customer in Oman. Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, CEO of Porsche AG said: "With the Carrera GT, our Company has impressively demonstrated what is technologically possible in sports car construction. This is why the project has not only consolidated our position as the most eminent sports car manufacturer in the world, but is also an economic success for us." In total, more than 1,200 units of the Carrera GT, which is capable of speeds of up to 205 mph (330 km/h) have been ordered. This makes it the most successful high performance sports car of all time.

The Carrera GT has been in production in Leipzig since fall 2003. "Even during its production, this vehicle inspires emotion," explains Siegfried Bülow, plant manager at Leipzig. "Our staff always know what it means to be able to work on Porsche's top model." Around 70 highly qualified specialists assemble the vehicle on an assembly line in eight stages. The 612 HP ten-cylinder engine is delivered from Porsche's main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.

The key market for the Carrera GT is the US, where around half of the vehicles have been sold to date. Large numbers have also been sold in Porche's traditional markets of Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and the countries of the Middle East.
