Michelin Reifenwerke is the Porsche supplier of the yearStuttgart sports car manufacturer presents "Supplier Awards"

Stuttgart/Leipzig. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has recognized Michelin Reifenwerke KGaA, Karlsruhe, as the best supplier of 2004. The German subsidiary of Compagnie Générale des Etablissements Michelin (CGEM) today supplies Porsche with tires for all vehicle types and has been a partner of the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer since 1961. Both companies also work together closely in motorsport. Thus, Michelin appears as the title sponsor of the Porsche Michelin Supercup – the only racing series held with Gran Turismo sports cars, exclusively within the framework of Formula 1.

The quality of the tires plays a decisive role with automobiles, as it is a key factor in determining the driving characteristics. Michelin tires have been characterized by top values for years. The Karlsruhe company was also convincing in the criteria relevant for the "Porsche Supplier Award 2004" – logistics, technology and cost optimization. In addition, a close development partnership exists between Porsche and Michelin, to ensure optimum harmonization of vehicles and tires before series production.

In addition to Michelin Reifenwerke KGaA, nine further Porsche suppliers, which also provided top service over the last financial year, also received awards: Akkumulatorenfabrik Moll GmbH & Co. KG (Bad Staffelstein), Armaturenfabrik Franz Schneider GmbH & Co. KG (Nordheim), Denso Europe B.V. (Weesp/the Netherlands), FES GmbH Fahrzeug-Entwicklung Sachsen (Zwickau), Georg Fischer GmbH & Co. KG (Altenmarkt/Austria), ISE Innomotive Systems Europe GmbH (Bergneustadt), Kingeter GmbH Werkzeugbau (Heiningen), Leoni Bordnetz-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG (Kitzingen) and Schenker Deutschland AG (Filderstadt).

The members of the Porsche Executive Board Holger P. Härter (CFO) and Michael Macht (Production and Logistics) presented the coveted "Porsche Supplier Award 2004" trophies to the representatives of the prizewinning companies at the twelfth Porsche supplier day, which took place in the customer center of Porsche Leipzig GmbH.

The CEO, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, highlighted the excellent cooperation between Porsche and its suppliers at this event: "Our relationship is characterized by great closeness, fast communication channels and close contact. We cooperate in a fair, innovative and target-oriented manner." He emphasized that the suppliers in particular had made a significant contribution to the extent of the successes experienced in the production start-up of the new 911 and Boxster sports car generations last year.

At the supplier day, the Porsche CEO also stood up for Germany as a location by referring to the cachet "Made in Germany", which enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. German engineering and workmanship were a decisive competitive advantage on the international markets, valued highly by customers, he continued. Wiedeking: "The example set by Porsche proves that customers are indeed prepared to pay a premium price for outstanding quality."
