The sportiest cars of 2004: Three top spots for Porsche"sport auto" magazine's 25th readers' poll

Stuttgart. Over 11,000 readers of the magazine "sport auto" took part in the poll to choose the world's sportiest cars in 2004. In three of the twelve categories, which were broken down by body type and price, a Porsche model came out victorious.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet won the category "Roadsters and cabriolets from €60,000" with 14.1% of the votes, beating the Ferrari 360 Spider (14.0%) and the Wiesmann Roadster MF3 (12.6%). In "Coupés between €45,000 and €90,000", the Porsche 911 Carrera S was the runaway victor, taking 44% of the votes. It was followed by the TVR Sagaris with 14.2% and the Chevrolet Corvette with 9.5%.

The top category "Super sports cars" was won with another impressive lead – and for the second time running – by the Porsche Carrera GT. 37.1% of the readers clearly preferred it over the Ford GT (13.7%) and the Lamborghini Murciélago (11.7%).

Over 600 guests attended this year's awards ceremony on Thursday, which took place at a gala event at the Essen Motor Show, as is tradition. Wolfgang Dürheimer, the Member of Porsche's Management Board responsible for Research and Development received the awards for Porsche. "I would like to thank the readers for their votes and for the constant appreciation they have shown for our sports cars for decades. I am particularly pleased about the Carrera GT winning again," said Dürheimer.
