Checking rear seat belt bucklesPorsche Cayenne

Stuttgart. Porsche AG of Stuttgart is checking the rear seat belt buckles on 40,848 Cayennes sold worldwide. The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belts are unaffected by this measure. All Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo vehicles produced between October 1, 2002 and December 17, 2003 will be checked.

Porsche’s quality tests have established that the shaft pin that forms a firm connection between the seat belt buckle and the anchorage fitting may have been incorrectly riveted. As a result, vibration could cause it to escape from the fitting. However, no cases of inadequate rear-passenger restraint system performance have so far occurred anywhere in the world. According to the supplier, only about 1,000 defective seat belt buckles were installed in Cayenne vehicles.

The vehicles that require this check need to spend about 20 minutes at the workshop so that they can be inspected and the rear seat belt buckles replaced if defective. The owners of the vehicles concerned will be informed shortly, and will incur no charge for the check and eventual replacement work.
