The 911 that shaped a family—passed down, cherished, and finally home again.
One Porsche. Three generations of Porsche enthusiasts.

“Driving a Porsche is like falling in love. It captivates you at first, unusual and unlike the others. There’s something remarkable about it, and you can’t stop thinking about it. You look back at it when you’ve arrived. You care for it. You grow together. It reminds you of when you met, and all the moments in between.”
Greg Massa is not speaking metaphorically. Because he really did grow up alongside a Porsche, a G-Series 911 Targa in Lagoon Green Metallic (Lagunengrün in German) over black leather. Specced with body color-matched Fuchs five-spoke wheels, the Lagunengrün Targa belonged to his dad, but it would go on to become part of the family.

Practically the definition of a 1980s dream machine, Greg got his first glimpse of the G-Series from the backseat of
his mom’s car. But it didn’t take long for him to graduate to Porsche co-pilot when his dad would pick him up from elementary school in the icy turquoise 911. Even on days when he didn’t, Greg could look forward to “the distinctive wail of dad coming down the hill from work.” A few years later, he didn’t even have to wait for that—because he bought the Lagunengrün Targa from his dad. And when Greg became a dad himself, he introduced his daughter to the Targa, becoming the vehicle (literally and metaphorically) for a third generation of Massa family Porsche enthusiasts.
But then Greg sold it.In retrospect, Greg describes the decision as foolish. Whether it was or not, it weighed heavy on him for the next ten years until he decided the Lagunengrün Targa had to come home. Except not to him, but to the man who started it all: his dad. “No other machine or object has connected our family like our Porsche 911,” Greg recalls, and it’s why he handed the keys back to his dad, “its rightful caretaker.” (And why his dad, a professional illustrator, presented Greg with a painting of the family Targa.) Because—in Greg’s words—when it comes to the touchstones of our lives, “there is no substitute for the bond forged over the machine at the center of our family.”
