Porsche Junior Thomas Preining (BTW Lechner Racing) has won round six of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. On the Hungaroring northeast of Budapest, the Austrian secured his second win of the season in the international one-make cup. “Pole position was particularly important on Hungaroring because it’s difficult to overtake here. My start was great and I didn’t make any mistakes during the race,” said Preining. Second place went to Porsche Junior Julien Andlauer (F/martinet by ALMERAS). Jaap van Lagen (Fach Auto Tech) from the Netherlands crossed the finish line in his 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in third place.

In sunshine and outside temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius, the race on the Hungarian circuit literally turned into a heated battle. At the head of the 27-strong field was Preining. The 20-year-old defended his lead after the start, however in the very first lap the safety car had to be deployed. Preining, however, maintained his lead after the restart in lap two. Taking up the race from the second grid spot, Andlauer stuck close to the Austrian’s bumper. In the final laps, the young Frenchman put Preining under pressure, but the Lechner driver gave no chance for Andlauer to squeeze past and concluded the race after 14 laps in first place. For the second time this season, the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup France took the flag in second place 11.7-seconds shy of van Lagen. “This is a great result, and unfortunately I couldn’t do better. The heat was particularly challenging because you couldn’t really risk too much with the tyres,” said Andlauer.

Third place on the storied racetrack on the outskirts of Budapest was occupied by van Lagen. The seasoned Porsche specialist took up the race from fifth on the grid and managed to sweep past two vehicles in the sprint to the first corner. “It feels great to stand on the podium again. I was fast over the entire weekend and I’m thrilled that we were rewarded for this in the race,” stated van Lagen. Behind the 41-year-old, Zaid Ashkanani (MRS GT-Racing) took the flag in fourth place. This is the best result so far this season for the race driver from Kuwait. Fifth place on the 4.381-kilometre circuit went to Nick Yelloly (Fach Auto Tech).

The British driver and Michael Ammermüller (BWT Lechner Racing) treated spectators to an exciting duel. The German, however, couldn’t find a way past his closest rival in the championship. Seventh place was occupied by Christopher Zöchling (A/MRS GT-Racing), with the Dutchman Larry ten Voorde (Team Project 1) crossing the finish line in eighth as the best rookie. Roar Lindland (Lechner Racing Middle East) once again celebrated first place in the ProAm-class. For the Norwegian, this marked his fifth win in this category.

Ammermüller continues to lead the championship with 91 points, Yelloly, however, is closing the gap. Only three points separate the drivers after the race on the Hungaroring. 19-year-old Andlauer ranks third after earning 65 points from six races.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup now heads into a four-week summer break. Round seven of the international one-make cup series will be contested in Spa-Francorchamps from 24-26 August. Lining up to contest this round is the Formula E driver Felix Rosenqvist. The 26-year-old Swede will pilot the VIP vehicle with the starting number 911 on the tradition-steeped racetrack in the Ardennes.
