World Champion, Brendon Hartley, and the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid
Venue: FIA-certified Porsche racetrack, Leipzig

The new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. A car for everyone who attaches great importance to driving pleasure. We push the latest generation to its dynamic limits – with someone who's unwilling to accept boundaries. Our works driver, Brendon Hartley, takes you on a lap of the circuit. And provides a clear insight en route to your destination.

On the test stand.
The driver: Brendon Hartley (28), born in Palmerston, New Zealand. First competed for Porsche in the 2014 FIA WEC, driving the LMP1 919 Hybrid prototype. Crowned World Champion in 2015, along with Webber and Bernhard. Followed by overall victory at Le Mans in 2017.

"Nowadays, motor racing is more about crossing the finish line. That's what I love about sports cars: they focus on enjoyment."

The circuit: anyone aiming to push the boundaries can do so here. The FIA-certified Porsche racetrack lies in the shadow of the Customer Centre in Leipzig. Anyone utilizing it will embark on a journey around the globe: the course includes sections that are modeled on the world's legendary motorsport venues. From Spa to Monza. Laguna Seca to Monte Carlo. Sebring to Nürburgring. Demanding and spectacular, they challenge both car and driver. A circuit where you can become familiar with the nature and performance of your sports car. Perfect for our drivers and the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

Pure driving pleasure - goose bumps included.
For Brendon Hartley in his role as a professional motorsport driver, the racetrack represents hard work and a battle for every second. Today, the long-distance World Champion can simply enjoy the pleasure of testing the sporty credentials of the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

"The new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is extremely comfortable and puts a smile on my face."

Compared to its predecessor, the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has come a long way. Hartley is impressed by the car's improved performance and handling. And starts to feel a close attachment after only the first bend. "I get the same feedback from the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid as from a race car," he says, enthusiastically. Along with goose bumps. As with any Porsche, he appreciates the sporty, dynamic character that unfolds on the racetrack. And the comfort on the drive home. He also likes the fact that in the Panamera he can share the pleasure with three other people. And admits: "When you're pushing the dynamic boundaries, you forget that it's a luxury sedan, with passengers in the back."

"The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is very much at home on the racetrack."

At the cutting edge.
"It's great to see the technology transfer from the Porsche 919 Hybrid in action, which we developed together with the Porsche Family," says Hartley, full of praise for the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. For him, the development of new technologies is one of the most exciting parts of the LMP1 project. So it's all the more satisfying to see them being used in a standard-production vehicle. Brendon himself had to initially be convinced of the idea of a hybrid race car. But he's now in no doubt about the sportiness of the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid: "Because, contrary to the fear that a hybrid drivetrain will diminish the driving experience, it actually enhances it." He's confident that sports car enthusiasts will love it.

"The electric motor delivers real, pure power that's instantly available." Responsiveness, overall performance and steering – for the race driver, everything in the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is a reflection of motorsport and the racetrack. "The two power units, i.e. the combustion engine and the electric motor, work in perfect harmony," according to Brendon.

In the right-left combination of the Suzuka S, the car impressively maintains perfect balance at high speed. The chassis control system for active roll stabilization – Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDDC Sport) – registers the lateral inclination induced by cornering from the very outset, and acts to suppress it.

The Panamera effortlessly pushes the dynamic boundaries. Even in the Bus Stop from the Spa circuit in Belgium. This left-right-left chicane demands courage and perfection. Brendon is impressed how the car – as a luxury four-door sedan – handles the change of direction. In the middle section of the circuit is the spectacular Corkscrew from Laguna Seca, which requires maximum dynamics and driving skill, thanks to its 12% gradient and total lack of visibility. This right-left-right combination tests the shock absorber system and driving stability. With a superb outcome in our driver's view: "The car does everything I ask."

"I really do have the same feeling as in a race car."

In SPORT PLUS mode, the new 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) reveals its strengths in the infamous Loews Curve that links the fastest and slowest sections of the track. Gearshifts take place in milliseconds with no discernible interruption in the flow of power. Brendon is also pleased with the brake pedal. "The braking is impressive and extremely accurate, despite the fact that the car is still under load."

And then comes the right-hand Parabolica bend from Monza that Brendon believes is more than a medium-speed curve with a wide radius. This 180-degree corner must be taken at high speed with powerful lateral acceleration. "A great opportunity to test the mechanical grip as well as the interaction between the steering and accelerator." Brendon's highlights: the perfect harmony between man and machine, and experiencing the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid at its limits.

"Improved efficiency doesn't make the car any less exciting – the new hybrid technology makes the driving experience even more thrilling!"
