Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Porsche Carrera Cup GB: 2018 / 2019 Junior programme open for applications, Preview
Record support on offer for Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior

The fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, will provide an annual fund of £85,000 – an increase of £5,000 and the highest yet offered – to the driver who earns their place as the Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior. Almost doubling the eligible group, applicants must now be aged between 17 and 24 on February 1, 2018 (formerly between 18 and 22).

The increased fund and revised age range complement a change of title for the programme, which now aligns in name as well as purpose with the career development opportunities provided internationally by Porsche for young drivers. Formerly known as the Scholarship, applications for the Porsche GB Junior programme open for just a few weeks every other year as the successful applicant is guided through two full seasons of competition.

The purpose behind offering one of the largest prizes in UK motorsport is to identify and nurture young racing talent, and to support an entry into to the Porsche Motorsport pyramid. Highlighting the opportunity the international programmes offer for career development is the current roll of Porsche factory drivers - over half are former Juniors.

A host of additional benefits complement the £85,000 budget contribution per season. The Porsche GB Junior will receive one-to-one support from Porsche Motorsport engineers, experts in data analysis and the 911 GT3 Cup, as well as a fully-funded drive in the Silverstone round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2019.

Assisting with the physical demands of competing, the Porsche Human Performance team in their bespoke facility at Silverstone will create a full fitness programme and be on hand throughout. Specialist media training is also provided, while the Porsche GB Junior will be invited to attend high-profile events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Autosport International Show.

The selected driver will follow in some successful footsteps. Porsche GB 2014 / 2015 Scholar Josh Webster broke multiple records on his way to becoming the youngest ever Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion, and was the first Scholar to win the title in their debut season. Currently, Webster is competing in the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and lies third in the Rookie championship.

The outgoing Porsche GB 2016 / 2017 Scholar, Charlie Eastwood, took his first race win in his debut season, claimed the Rookie championship, and is currently leading the 2017 overall standings. Both Webster and Eastwood will be involved in the final selection process for the Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior.

12 candidates will be selected to attend an interview day at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone in early October, with a final four undergoing a full evaluation process on and off the Silverstone circuit a few days later. The Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior will be announced at the end of season awards held on Saturday 11 November.

Applicants must hold a minimum of a National A competition licence, are permitted to have entered one Porsche Carrera Cup GB race weekend, but must not have previously competed within Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Applications close on Monday 11 September and can be made via porsche.co.uk/CarreraCupGBJunior.
