Lightweight, fast, powerful, and agile are just some of the words that describe the Porsche 718. Already a legend, the paragon of sports cars has now been revamped with four cylinders and a turbocharged engine.

The pedigree is immediately obvious. Elegant contours, two seats in the middle, aerodynamically designed headlights. Three details that have become integral to the 718 code. In the past, the cars that sported these three digits were commanding types—winning more than a thousand races by the mid-1960s. In the Targa Florio the 718 proved to be a brilliant success, and in 1960 it claimed the first of Porsche’s eventual eighteen victories in Sebring. The latest version of the Boxster—the 718 Boxster—harks back to this pioneering era. This proven classic now has a turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, bringing the best of the past into the future.

The new roadster boasts better fuel efficiency as well as more power and torque than its predecessor. The S model features a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, ensuring even more dynamic output, and the brake performance of the 718 Boxster has been enhanced, with larger discs to match. The enhanced suspension and direct steering system testify to the iconic sportiness of 1957. The result? A car that is faster and more agile than ever before—particularly in curves. With a markedly wider design—emphasized by the rear trim strip between the taillights—and large cooling air intakes, this mid-engine sports car still flaunts a bold and sleek silhouette. The muscular flair of its fenders and sills accentuates its athleticism, and the recessed handles optimize the aerodynamics of its doors.

As for Porsche coupes, the honor of sporting this illustrious number is reserved for the 718 Cayman, which will complete the model series and add another chapter to the legendary 718 saga.
