Inspired by Porsche Formula E racecars: the Cayenne Electric features innovation in every detailAt Porsche, racing is in its blood. But when it first entered the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in 2019, the goal was more than just to compete and win – it was to win through learning too. The experience and expertise that’s been gained from developing the 99X Electric race car – which won both the 2025 Formula E World Championship Manufacturer’s and Team’s titles – has had a direct influence on the technology you see in the new Cayenne Electric.

The state-of-the-art technology within the new Cayenne is a prime example of the importance that Porsche places on transferring technology developed for the racetrack to its road cars. You see it, for example, in its drive system, energy management and recuperation powers, which draw from the same software and systems that secured those Formula E World Championship titles in 2025 and that also won the driver’s title in 2024, with Pascal Wehrlein at the wheel. Technology, then, that wins.

The influence of Porsche Formula E electric racecar technology is highlighted by its outstanding powers of battery recuperation – the new Cayenne and 99X Electric racecar both recover significant amounts of energy during braking. Depending on conditions such as temperature and speed, the new Cayenne Electric can achieve levels of up to 600 kW of recuperation power – figures that match the peak figure of the 99X Electric racecar. In other words, efficiency and performance working in tandem.

But the innovation behind the new Cayenne Electric goes way beyond – quite literally, in fact – such groundbreaking technology as this. It also extends to the car’s comprehensive and relentless testing process. It’s one that has taken development models from frozen Scandinavian lakes to the searing heat of the desert in Dubai, where the Cayenne Electric prototypes have undergone significant evaluation and refinements in the most challenging of conditions.

The aim for the team behind the new Porsche Cayenne Electric was simple. It was to ensure that the performance, comfort and range of the Cayenne Electric remains without compromise – like every previous generation of the model – whether you’re climbing a snowy alpine pass or cruising on city streets.

Speaking of climbs, Cayenne Electric prototypes have already proven themselves by taking on some of the most world’s most fabled motoring events. At the historic Shelsley Walsh in the heart of rural England, a development prototype set a new record for an SUV in July 2025. Piloted by Porsche development driver, Gabriela Jílková, its time of 31.28 seconds for the 1,000-yard (914 metres) course beat the previous record mark by over four seconds on its initial run.Shortly after, a near-production Cayenne Electric prototype wowed the crowds at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England, launching its way up the famous hillclimb to show off its outstanding dynamic capabilities. And, more recently, it also took on the challenge of driving up the spectacular Großglockner High Alpine Road in Austria, where the all-electric SUV showcased its blend of torque, traction and precision at over 2,500 metres (8,200 feet) above sea level.

It’s a stunningly beautiful location, but for Porsche engineers, this wasn’t a photo opportunity. It was authentic proof of the endurance capabilities, power and engineering excellence behind the new Cayenne Electric on a mountain that, throughout the history of Porsche, has played a central role in the development of its cars. With every test, climb and kilometre already driven, the Cayenne Electric has proven one thing – that outstanding performance remains the essence of every single Porsche built.Fast, even when standing still: super quick charging with the new Cayenne ElectricBut while it’s one thing to move fast, today’s electric car drivers demand that they charge fast too. At the heart of the Cayenne Electric is new 800-volt architecture. Based on similar principles to those used in the all-electric Taycan sportscars, it’s been developed to offer exceptional efficiency, intelligent energy distribution and impressive charging performance.

With the car’s function-integrated battery, powerful dual cooling, intelligent thermal management and robust charging performance, Porsche has laid the foundation for a new level of E-Performance. The function-integrated battery at the heart of the Cayenne Electric has a gross energy content of around 113 kWh and is both a structural element and a technological marvel. It results in significant advantages in weight and packaging. The battery’s integration into the body structure increases the rigidity of the Cayenne Electric and further lowers its centre of gravity – essential factors that contribute to its precise and agile handling.
With charging power of up to 390 kW, up to 323 kilometres (200 miles) of range can be added to the Cayenne Electric in just 10 minutes when using a suitable high-speed charging station. And it can even do so on the coldest of days, all thanks to a predictive thermal management system that means that every time you charge the Cayenne Electric it’s a quick and consistent process. As for the range of this new Porsche SUV? That’s over 600 kilometres (373 miles) according to the combined WLTP standard, depending on the car’s configuration.

But Porsche charging innovation goes beyond fast charging capability with the introduction, in 2026, of Porsche Wireless Charging. This 11 kW inductive system helps take your charging experience to a whole new level of convenience. The concept is simple: a flat floor plate is installed where you park. When the Cayenne Electric rolls over it, the car automatically detects the charging pad, aligns itself and then lowers slightly for optimum charging efficiency. No cables, connectors or plugs to handle, you simply park your Cayenne Electric and Porsche Wireless Charging takes care of the rest. Convenient, safe and futureproof – it’s also suitable for outdoor use as all live components are protected from rain and snow – to ensure that charging an electric car at home has never been so easy. The interior of the new Cayenne Electric: redefining your driving experienceAnd when you head inside the new Cayenne Electric, you’ll find an interior re-imagined for today’s discerning SUV driver with long-range comfort, seamlessly-integrated technology and Porsche luxury for the electric car era. The interior of the Cayenne Electric is unmistakably Porsche, but with a bold futuristic twist.

At its heart is the new Flow Display. This new digital operating concept features the largest display surface ever seen in a Porsche, integrated seamlessly into the dashboard, and transforms the new Cayenne Electric interior into an experiential space. The 14.25-inch OLED display elegantly curves across the dashboard and provides a clear view of the power meter as well as information relating to navigation, driver assistance systems and infotainment in one fluid, intuitive surface.

Whether long-range driving or negotiating heavy urban traffic, the interior of the new Cayenne Electric is built to provide a comfortable, luxury experience. At its heart is the new intuitive, interactive Flow Display which features the largest display surface ever seen in a Porsche Photo: Porsche
All displays are seamlessly embedded into the interior architecture. In contrast, the buttons and controls for particularly frequently used functions, such as air conditioning and audio volume, are analogue. In addition, a hand rest called the ‘Ferry Pad’ has been developed. This allows the driver to operate the digital and analogue elements ergonomically – even in particularly dynamic driving situations. The Flow Display works seamlessly with Porsche’s AI-powered voice assistant, reliably understanding complex instructions through natural conversation, as well as spontaneous follow-up questions. Ask the Voice Pilot about navigation queries, to turn on your heated seats or choose your favourite tune to play and it will respond immediately and without any fuss. It's also joined by the new Porsche Digital Key, which allows your smartphone or smartwatch to act as your car key, so there’s no need to take it out of your pocket.Comfort, meanwhile, reaches new heights in the Cayenne Electric with electrically adjustable rear seats, innovative surface heating that warms not only the seats but also large contact areas like the armrests and sections of the door panels. There are also a series of ambient Mood Modes. The latter sees light, climate, sound and seat functions working together to create different distinctive atmospheres, aiding relaxation and concentration or to further enhance the driving experience. It all helps make every journey in the new Cayenne Electric even more personal. Whether on a long drive or simply sitting in traffic, the interior adapts to your mood and needs. At Porsche, personalisation has always played a key role in the brand’s DNA. A newly developed range of colours, materials and accents means that the Cayenne Electric driver can truly reflect their personality with the broad choices you can make. The result is an interior built around the driver yet is a comfortable, luxury experience for every one of their passengers too.
