Porsche SCOPES is a multi-disciplinary, global platform that brings together the fields of design, art, music, technology and social engagement. Here’s what happened when it met Marseille’s vibrant creative scene
A Porsche experience takes many forms. From travel to track and much more, there’s something for everyone looking to immerse themselves in the wider world of Porsche.Since its launch in 2018 as a festival series, Porsche SCOPES has toured cities such as Berlin, Stockholm, Tokyo and Seoul, creating forums for exchange, inspiration and new perspectives. In its ninth outing, it visited Marseille, a French city where past and present, elegance and rebellion intersect. It proved to be a unique way of discovering Porsche by moving to the beat of this fascinating city's creative pulse. What happened at Porsche SCOPES Marseille?Berlin, Warsaw, Seoul – for the past few years, Porsche SCOPES had been causing a stir in cities around the world with its singular blend of futuristic art and technology. When it headed to Marseille in the south of France, the city’s vibrant spirit was palpable in its narrow alleyways, amid graffiti-decorated walls and to a soundtrack of hip-hop beats streaming out of open windows. It became a celebration of Marseille’s rebelliousness and pan-cultural energy, delivered with just the right dose of anarchy.

Porsche SCOPES: three days of relentless, creative energyFor the three days of the Porsche SCOPES festival, Atelier Jeanne Barret – a cultural venue located in Marseille’s 15th arrondissement – became a hot spot for art, music, technology and social discourse. Around 40 artists, many of whom hailed from Marseille or had local ties, presented art installations, live performances, DJ sets and workshops. Here it was not status that mattered most, but connection, exchange and inspiration. The tone was set on the very first evening with a long queue at its entrance, an open-door policy and a welcoming atmosphere. Outside, eclectic groups of people gathered around the food stalls chatting as the throb of electronic beats wafted from the venue. Right at the middle of it all was a stunning light and technology installation by Stefan Damnig – also known as PRSMC – featuring the Porsche Macan Electric. Innovation, you see, is everywhere at a Porsche SCOPES festival.

Art meets technology: the Macan Electric art car installationStefan’s installation – ‘DATAPASS_01’ – transformed the Macan into a pulsating art object. Lasers, mirrors and digital effects created a world where humans and machines conversed with each other. Mirrored walls with precise cut-outs created seemingly endless corridors of light. The audience was filmed live by thermal imaging cameras that projected the images onto LED walls in an interplay of observation, participation and aesthetics in what Stefan called a “techy, immersive experience”. The all-electric Macan, presented as a sculpture of a futuristic vision of the present.

Porsche SCOPES: a destination for live music fansThe studio’s main hall – raw concrete, high ceilings and pure industrial vibes – was designed, in part, from original Porsche car materials by the artist collective Southway Studio. The stage itself became a work of art. The audience was warmed up by DJ sets by ORISHA and Rorre Ecco before Régina Demina took to the stage – a performance combining song, dance and boxing. Surrounded by two pugilists exchanging blows, her voice, movement and presence dominated the stage. Pole dancing, martial arts and car culture – an impressive fusion of Marseille’s culture.Later, the room transformed into a club, with artists Lala &ce, Bonnie Banane and COUCOU CHLOE taking over the DJ booth with the crowd dancing until late into the night.

Experimentation also continued off stage, like a floating miniature Porsche by Jean-Baptiste Janisset, visible through augmented reality. Then there was the sparkling chandelier by Dorian Renard, dangling spectacularly above the bar. For those who wanted to retreat from the sensory overload for a while, you could drop in to Delphine Dénéréaz’s woven installation of beanbags, featuring fantasy elements where you could linger and dream amid a world of childhood memories. The final day was one of workshops and talks. There was plenty of discussion, questions and reflection – about inspiration in times of change, creative processes in a digital world and the connection between technology, society and art. And about how all of this comes together to shape our future.Porsche SCOPES is more than just a festival. It’s a place where new ideas emerge, disciplines meet and the sense of community becomes tangible. All of this came to life in Marseille, a city where vision, art and cultural change resonate. If only for one weekend, the future felt closer than ever.
