Following the route of the Targa Florio with the Porsche Travel Experience

On leaving the Sicilian capital of Palermo, Porsche Travel Experience participants embark on a thrilling tour of discovery, where driving pleasure meets cultural indulgence. The winding roads here are more than just a test of skill – they’re a passage through history, just like the many forms of sweet treats we encounter. Just as perfectly-balanced cannolo relies on the right balance of crunchy shell with a creamy filling, navigating the famous Targa Florio rally route demands a mix of control, instinct and appreciation for craftsmanship.

A visit to the legendary Museo Targa Florio in Collesano, a museum dedicated to one of the oldest and most fascinating road races in the world, is an essential stop. Nearby is the small town of Castelbuono, home to the world-famous Pasticceria Fiasconaro – an unofficial pilgrimage site for fans of the island’s sugary delights. Since 1953, the sweet life has been celebrated here with a piety and seriousness that borders on devotion.

An encounter with Porsche motorsport heroes on the Porsche Travel Experience Sicily

Pistachios and almonds thrive in this region and are an integral part of Castelbuono’s patisserie art. Marzipan fruit, torroncini biscuits made from almonds and honey and pistachio biscuits are sugary works of art, born out of tradition. As you savour these delicacies, your gaze drifts to that icon of Sicilian pastries – the cannoli. A delicate roll of crispy, crumbly dough stuffed with sweet ricotta cream and crowned with chocolate, pistachios, almonds or, for a classical touch, candied pumpkin.

On this particular Porsche Travel Experience, we’re lucky to be accompanied with stars of Porsche motorsport past and present in the shape of Gijs van Lennep and Ayhancan Güven. The former is a Dutch driver who, among his many achievements, won the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans with Austrian co-driver Helmut Marko at the wheel of a Porsche 917 K. Ayhancan Güven is a Turkish Porsche Factory Driver, who in October 2025 won the DTM championship, one of the leading touring car competitions, in his Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R.

After the wealth of tips and experience they’re able to impart, Gijs and Ayhancan reward themselves with a coffee and cannoli at Pasticceria Fiasconaro.
