With their love of their island’s famous pastries, treats and desserts, Sicilians know how to ensure that life is sweet. And you can too by following the route of the legendary Targa Florio with Porsche
Pistachios and almonds, cannoli and chocolate – Sicily is the venue of confectionery dreams. Anyone who travels around Sicily with the Porsche Travel Experience learns how enjoyable life can be, especially at the wheel of a Porsche. This is especially true of the town of Castelbuono in the north of the island, where one café has become a site of special culinary interest for aficionados of Sicily’s pastries and desserts.Sicily’s sugary offerings, which encompasses a broad mix of desserts, sweets, pastries and cakes, is the fuel of many Sicilians. Olivette di Sant’Agata (olive-shaped sweets), biancomangiare (a type of blancmange) and Sicilian cannoli (the region’s iconic tube-shaped pastries) are just a few of the grand secrets of the island’s sweet-tasting tradition. They’re guarded as great cultural treasures, cared for like the magnificent colourful images of saints in the island’s churches, and proudly passed down from generation to generation. Here, the food is not simply baked and quickly consumed in one go – every bite is steeped in history. To park up beside a café – or pasticceria – for an espresso, with something sweet placed beside it, may feel like something inconsequential. But you soon realise it’s an essential element of the Porsche Travel Experience in Sicily. There are treats to be had all round on the Porsche Travel Experience Sicily – whether driving one in the shape of a 911 Targa 4S like this, or a visit to a pasticceria for coffee and something sweet to eat Photo: Błażej Żuławski • PorscheThe sweetest of treats on the Porsche Travel Experience SicilyIt’s impossible not to succumb to temptation in Sicily by the wealth of enticing sweets that await you in every corner of this beautiful, historic island. If you don’t give in, you only have yourself to blame. These specialities symbolise a town, a landscape, a region. A reflection of the place where they were born, crafted with precision and passion for decades and, in some cases, centuries. The sweet essence of la dolce vita on the Porsche Travel Experience Sicily: Sicilian cannoli, filled with creamy ricotta and topped with pistachios and chocolate Photo: Błażej Żuławski • PorscheFollowing the route of the Targa Florio with the Porsche Travel ExperienceOn leaving the Sicilian capital of Palermo, Porsche Travel Experience participants embark on a thrilling tour of discovery, where driving pleasure meets cultural indulgence. The winding roads here are more than just a test of skill – they’re a passage through history, just like the many forms of sweet treats we encounter. Just as perfectly-balanced cannolo relies on the right balance of crunchy shell with a creamy filling, navigating the famous Targa Florio rally route demands a mix of control, instinct and appreciation for craftsmanship.A visit to the legendary Museo Targa Florio in Collesano, a museum dedicated to one of the oldest and most fascinating road races in the world, is an essential stop. Nearby is the small town of Castelbuono, home to the world-famous Pasticceria Fiasconaro – an unofficial pilgrimage site for fans of the island’s sugary delights. Since 1953, the sweet life has been celebrated here with a piety and seriousness that borders on devotion.Former 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, Gijs van Lennep (left), and 2025 DTM champion and Porsche Factory Driver, Ayhancan Güven, pause their Porsche Travel Experience journey to sample Sicilian sweets at a pasticceria Photo: Błażej Żuławski • PorscheAn encounter with Porsche motorsport heroes on the Porsche Travel Experience SicilyPistachios and almonds thrive in this region and are an integral part of Castelbuono’s patisserie art. Marzipan fruit, torroncini biscuits made from almonds and honey and pistachio biscuits are sugary works of art, born out of tradition. As you savour these delicacies, your gaze drifts to that icon of Sicilian pastries – the cannoli. A delicate roll of crispy, crumbly dough stuffed with sweet ricotta cream and crowned with chocolate, pistachios, almonds or, for a classical touch, candied pumpkin. On this particular Porsche Travel Experience, we’re lucky to be accompanied with stars of Porsche motorsport past and present in the shape of Gijs van Lennep and Ayhancan Güven. The former is a Dutch driver who, among his many achievements, won the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans with Austrian co-driver Helmut Marko at the wheel of a Porsche 917 K. Ayhancan Güven is a Turkish Porsche Factory Driver, who in October 2025 won the DTM championship, one of the leading touring car competitions, in his Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R. After the wealth of tips and experience they’re able to impart, Gijs and Ayhancan reward themselves with a coffee and cannoli at Pasticceria Fiasconaro. That’s the essence of the Porsche Travel Experience Sicily – where legendary roads and the story of the race drivers who drove on them are served alongside the island’s legendary desserts. Precision and passion in unison, whether on a plate or behind the wheel. Here, the Porsche Travel Experience turns every curve, every bite and every moment into an unforgettable journey of pure indulgence.
