From coding to data science to connectivity, discover how Porsche is working at the cutting-edge of technology
From electromobility to software innovation to connected vehicles, Porsche is powering the future with groundbreaking technology. But it isn’t just technology that drives Porsche forward. It’s people. From AI to machine learning, Porsche tech innovators are working at the cutting-edge to redefine the cars of tomorrow. Here, world-class engineering meets a culture that pushes you to go beyond. We meet two innovators working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) roles at Porsche; software developer Rahima Yakoob and connect and infotainment team lead Stefan Sohl. What’s it like working in a STEM role at Porsche?Stefan “One of the positives is how quickly you can go from idea to realisation, especially in software, which moves faster than hardware. It’s also a great place for people that value and thrive in open and supportive structures.” Rahima “Problem solving. I love challenges. That’s something I think all STEM people share. It’s part of our mindset – to find solutions and keep learning. Software used to be a nice to have, now it’s a must have.”How does the Porsche culture support innovation?Rahima “It’s the passion we have for the product. That emotional connection drives us. We’re shifting toward software-defined vehicles, so the work we do as developers is becoming more and more critical. That gives us motivation and purpose.”Stefan “Besides the strong brand, the culture has changed. One of our board members talks about a ‘liquid organisation’. If there’s a challenge, we bring the right people together regardless of titles and let them solve it.”

What big trends are shaping tech at Porsche?Rahima “I’m focusing a lot on artificial intelligence. It’s everywhere now. We’re already testing AI to improve software development, like using it to enhance code quality. That’s exciting, both for me and for my team.”Stefan “We work in an agile framework, which gives us freedom to move fast and make decisions. The spirit in our department is different – it’s more dynamic, and we work closely with international colleagues and delivery units around the world. This surely adds complexity but to me it is a must to be innovative and sustainable.” What’s it like working at Porsche?Stefan “It’s very entrepreneurial. Every team member has ownership. We have ‘function owners’ who know their products end-to-end and work closely with product managers and process owners. If someone has an idea for improvement, they’re empowered to act on it, whether it’s an incremental improvement or something more revolutionary.”Rahima “At Porsche, we’re a family. We take care of each other. The culture is flexible, supportive and trusting. You don’t have to fight for balance; it happens naturally.”Why are you particularly proud to work at Porsche?Rahima “The technology landscape is changing fast – every month there’s something new. As software developers, we need to be quick and efficient. So, we created the Tech Radar. It helps us keep track of the tools, technologies, and programming languages we use – what we call our core technologies. We categorise everything into four groups: technologies we actively use, tools we’re considering but haven’t adopted yet, tools not in our stack but worth being aware of, and those we’ve phased out. To promote innovative solutions in tech, we have created a community for coders called ‘Connect, Cloud, Coders’. We share tech know-how and keep up to date with the evolving technologies through our coders community.”Stefan “I’m lucky. I’ve had the chance to experience different roles here, and that’s been really valuable. We also have a Porsche code – our corporate collaboration principles focusing on how we work together. Even under stress, we support each other. And of course, I still love the products. Every day, I get to interact with the car or parts of it. That’s special.”

What motivates you at Porsche?Stefan “No two days are the same. That keeps things interesting. I also feel like we make a real impact on sales, customer satisfaction and the cars themselves. And I enjoy working with the team, brainstorming, problem-solving and pushing ideas forward.”Rahima “I love the product. That passion for the cars transformed a regular job into a dream job. Porsche has such massive brand value, it feels meaningful to be part of that.” Why is this your dream job?Stefan “I love how I can bring my full skillset to the table – my entrepreneurial spirit, technical and consulting experience and personal strengths. I see myself more as a coach rather than someone who tells others what to do. That’s what drives me. Porsche allows me to realise my dreams. Being surrounded by these great cars day by day still inspires me.”Rahima “Normally with software, it’s intangible – you don’t see what you build. But at Porsche, I can see our work come to life in the car and in the app. That’s why I always say: “You built it, you see it.” That brings real satisfaction and recognition. That’s a dream for any engineer.”Discover why Porsche is a dream job for Rahima
