Long before Porsche became a familiar sight on Britain’s roads, a single Porsche 356 made its debut at London’s Earls Court Motor Show in 1951. Now, 75 years on, a special edition 911 GT3 has been created exclusively for the United Kingdom market to mark the moment
In detail: Porsche 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition A 911 GT3 with Touring Package, created to celebrate 75 years of Porsche in the United Kingdom Inspired by the first Porsche 356 shown at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1951 Features exclusive Earlscourtgreenmetallic Paint to Sample Plus exterior colour Includes bespoke British-inspired design details, such as an embossed 356 silhouette on the door sill panel, the lettering “driving in its purest form” on the driver’s side and an embossed Union Jack on the inner sides of both sun visors From winding B-roads and weekend drives through the countryside, to packed grandstands at Brands Hatch and Silverstone and suave, sportscar-driving heroes such as James Bond and Roger Moore, fast cars have long held a special place in British culture. The country has produced some of motorsport’s most iconic drivers and is home to legendary racing circuits, which have inspired generations of enthusiasts who appreciate not just speed, but also the craftsmanship, engineering and emotion that define an unforgettable sportscar. Porsche has been part of that story for 75 years. So, to celebrate, the company has created a very special sportscar. A unique Paint to Sample (PTS) Plus colour was created just for the launch of this car – the rich, dark Earlscourtgreenmetallic Photo: PorscheWhat is the Porsche 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition and what inspired it? Meet the Porsche 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition. Produced to help pay tribute to an important moment in Porsche history – when the company first announced its arrival in the United Kingdom. To understand why this car has been made, we must travel back to London in 1951. That year, visitors to the Earls Court Motor Show in west London were introduced to something they’d never seen before. Among the many displays of cars, jostling for position at this historic venue, was a small German sportscar called the Porsche 356. This was the first Porsche to be officially imported into the United Kingdom – and few could have predicted what would follow next. Finished in the exclusive Paint to Sample Plus colour, Earlscourtgreenmetallic, the 911 GT3 wheels feature subtle Brilliant Silver accents that echo the car’s celebration of British motoring heritage Photo: PorscheGenerations of Porsche fans have grown up dreaming about owning a 911, watching Porsche dominate on race circuits up and down the United Kingdom or spending weekends on track, road trips and at club gatherings nationwide. The 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition was created to honour that relationship. The Earls Court 51 badge on the rear grill of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package references the year when Porsche made its debut in the United Kingdom, at the 1951 Earls Court Motor Show Photo: PorscheWhat was the Earls Court venue? For much of the 20th century, Earls Court was one of Britain’s most important exhibition venues. Located in west London, the vast exhibition centre hosted a variety of events, including motor shows, music concerts and cultural events. However, it became particularly synonymous with the British International Motor Show, one of the most prestigious automotive events in Europe for car enthusiasts. During the 1950s and 1960s, manufacturers from around the world unveil their latest models to the British public at the Earls Court Motorshow. New sportscars, racing innovations and luxury grand tourers all made their debut under its iconic vaulted roof. For visitors, it was an opportunity to experience the future of motoring first-hand. At the time, Porsche was still a young company and largely unknown outside continental Europe. Few could have imagined that this modest display would sparked a nation of dreamers and shaped generations of passion for the sportscar manufacturer from Stuttgart that has now reached 75 years… and counting. Today, the original Earls Court exhibition centre no longer exists, but its place in British automotive history has faded little, in part because of the story behind cars like the 356. And through the 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition, Porsche is paying tribute to the venue where its story in the United Kingdom began. A colour combination created especially for the occasion Developed specifically for this project, Earlscourtgreenmetallic is a brand-new Paint to Sample Plus colour. Rich, deep and sophisticated, it exudes a distinctly British feel without resorting to clichés. The green paint job is a modern reinterpretation of the Moorgrün colour of one of the historic 356 models displayed 75 years ago in London, as well as being synonymous with British motorsport of the period. It's paired with a series of Brilliant Silver accents inspired by the original 356 which was presented in 1951. The exterior mirrors, door handles and bonnet stripe are finished in Brilliant Silver and the GT3 aluminium wheels, which are also finished in Earlscourtgreenmetallic, feature matching Brilliant Silver detailing. Hidden references throughout The more time you spend with the 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition, the more details you will notice. On the rear grille, for example, you’ll find a bespoke Earls Court 1951 badge bearing the design logo of Reutter, the famed Stuttgart coachbuilder that made the aluminium bodies of the 356. Open the door and a dedicated logo is projected on the ground, while the B-pillars feature special Earls Court 51 Edition branding. The details are seamlessly integrated into the car, rewarding owners who take the time to discover and cherish them. A cabin unlike any other 911 GT3 The Earls Court story continues inside the car. The cabin of the 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition showcases Porsche craftsmanship and heritage. Nightgreen leather adorns the upper dashboard and door panels. Chalk Beige Sport Seats Plus brighten up the interior, and corduroy inserts add texture and warmth to the seat inlays and door panels. A special 1:18 and 1:43 scale model car will accompany the 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition Photo: PorscheThe manual gear selector is finished in Paldao wood, while the wood detailing continues in the dashboard, as well as interior trim with light silver accents along the doors. The seat back panels are finished in striking Nightgreen leather with Paldao inlays. Head rest panels feature embossed Earls Court logos and the sun visor is decorated with a Union Jack flag. Another meaningful touch can be found on the dashboard side panel, where an outline of the Porsche 356 is accompanied by the slogan: ‘Driving in its purest form’. It’s a small detail, but one that connects the car directly back to the model that started the Porsche journey in the United Kingdom. To accompany the 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition will be a special owners edition 1:18 scale model car, custom made leather weekender, an exclusive Porsche Design timepiece, only available with the car, and a coffee table book by the Porsche Museum. The 1:43 and 1:18 model cars, a thermo mug and keyring, will also be available to purchase separately. 911 GT3 with Touring Package: Fuel consumption combined (model range): 13.8 – 13.7 l/100 km (preliminary value), CO₂-emissions combined (model range): 312 – 310 g/km (preliminary value)
