Paint to Sample is the brand’s extended colour programme. All standard production models come with a fixed set of series colours – usually around 12. But Paint to Sample opens the door to a much wider catalogue at a fixed price, from cult shades of Porsche past – such as Rubystar, Mintgruen, Maritimeblue, Vipergreen and Signalyellow – to contemporary colours that delight with their originality. Each one has already been tested and approved by Porsche, so customers get far more freedom while still choosing from an established programme. Because colour is such a visible expression of individuality, and because customers are looking for ways to personalise their cars further, Porsche is continuously working to expand and improve the Paint to Sample catalogue.,,,,The craft behind the colourWhat most people don’t realise is that PTS colours aren’t just the product of imagination; they also require a great deal of work, as well as science and engineering.Like any other Porsche component, PTS colours must fulfil stringent quality requirements and perform well across a wide range of materials. Modern cars combine exterior elements made from aluminium, plastic, and composite materials such as carbon fibre. These all react differently when paint is applied, so each PTS shade must look consistent and clean across all of them. This requires months – if not years – of testing, specialist knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail.Historic shades require even more attention. Many original paint formulations can no longer be used due to evolving standards and legal requirements. This means that PTS colour experts must recreate cult shades from scratch using modern paints and technologies. The process is particularly fascinating because it combines modern industrial precision with traditional craftsmanship. Every approved Paint to Sample colour represents countless hours of expertise, from the moment it is added to the programme until it ultimately appears in the configurator.A blend of craftsmanship and technology: Paint to Sample colour Essmanngreen (24C) Photo: Porsche,,How does the Paint to Sample Colour Configurator work?
