An iconic setting for an iconic legacy. Luftgekühlt’s first event in Japan brings together the Porsche community to celebrate all things air-cooled
What is Luft Tokyo?Luft Tokyo is the first Luftgekühlt event held in Tokyo, bringing together rare air-cooled Porsche sportscars in an iconic settingMore than 220 Porsche cars were displayed, attracting nearly 12,000 visitors to the eventThe event took place on the decommissioned KK Line, a two-kilometre section of Tokyo Expressway transformed into a temporary event space‘Luftgekühlt’ means ‘air-cooled’ in German, referencing the iconic Porsche engines that defined the brand for decadesThe last air-cooled Porsche model might have rolled off the production line in 1998, but they remain a celebrated part of Porsche culture.Thousands of Porsche fans and owners descended on the disused KK Line in the heart of Tokyo to appreciate hundreds of classic air-cooled Porsche models, from the 356 to the 911.Organised by Luftgekühlt, the distinctive car culture event made its first visit to Tokyo, taking over the famous Tokyo Expressway. This road connected the neighbourhoods of Kyobashi and Shimbashi for more than 66 years before being decommissioned last year to make way for a public green space. The perfect place, then, for a celebration of all things air-cooled in a setting like few others.

What is Luftgekühlt?Luftgekühlt started off life as a car community event in California by two-time Le Mans winner Patrick Long and 11-time national karting champion – and creative director – Howie Idelson. They created the sort of events that they and their friends would appreciate. Since that first event in 2014, Luftgekühlt has grown into a globally recognised celebration of air-cooled Porsche culture.
