For Yannick Hoos, a Porsche is more than just a car – it’s something with a soul and identity that this photographer from Stuttgart’s HEIZR Club seeks to capture every time his camera shutter opens
In the heart of Stuttgart, the city where Porsche history lives and breathes, photographer Yannick Hoos has found his creative calling – and his tribe. Yannick’s evocative car photography has led to him building quite a following on Instagram – and he’s also the in-house photographer for HEIZR Club, one of Germany’s coolest classic car communities.Yannick has gone from Porsche fan to proud owner and, through his lens, captures the vibrancy and unique spirit of classic Porsche cars and the lifestyle that surrounds them.

How a love for classic Porsche begunGrowing up in Baden-Württemberg, the German state in which Stuttgart is situated, meant that Porsche was never far away – literally and figuratively – for Yannick.“It’s almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with this ‘art on wheels’ here,” he says of a brand that was born in Stuttgart, a place it still calls home to this day. “Even if you’re somewhere that might lack in architectural charm, there’s a good chance you’ll find classic cars in someone’s backyard.”Seeing early Porsche models in everyday surroundings left a lasting impression on Yannick – even before he had a driving licence. These cars stirred something deep within him that went beyond just admiration to a desire to photograph, drive and, one day, own them.

Yannick is always chasing the perfect blend of light, character and emotion in his images, whether that’s drifting a Porsche 944 on a beach, exploring alpine passes at sunrise or shooting this 914 amid the sand dunes Photo: Yannick Hoos @yannickhoos
Owning a classic PorscheYannick experienced that magic first-hand when he turned 30 and bought a 1983 Porsche 944, with an interior covered with the iconic Pasha fabric. “It was the beginning of a journey,” he says of a car he still drives today – although he admits to dreaming of upgrading to a 911 in gold-beige metallic one day.For Yannick, owning and driving a classic Porsche is an experience that is all-encompassing and multi-faceted. “The steering, the sound, the smell – it all communicates with you. It stays with you long after you’ve parked the car.” And it’s that deep emotional feeling, that essence, that Yannick tries to capture in his photography.

How to become a classic Porsche photographerFor Yannick, the path to becoming a classic Porsche photographer began in 2014 when he bought a camera to document road trips with his friends. The rest, he says, “followed naturally”. Ten years later and Yannick is still chasing that same feeling – of the camaraderie that comes with being in the Porsche orbit, the fun in exploring new places and cars, and the joy of capturing it all through his camera.Over the years, Yannick’s photography style has evolved alongside his equipment. What began as a series of casual snaps has matured into a signature aesthetic rooted in delivering emotion and storytelling. “My goal is to present a machine in the context of the person behind it,” he explains. “A car with character. Whether it’s the patina on the steering wheel of a 356 or the sticker-decorated rear wing of a 992 GT3.”To him, perfection is not the goal. It’s all about presence.

Why Porsche cars and the Porsche community is so specialFor Yannick, every Porsche car creates an emotional response – but especially a classic Porsche. Their age lends them an extra layer of soul, he says, and a feeling of “timelessness and joy”.“It’s the worn leather, the chipped paint, the faded badges,” adds Yannick. “These imperfections tell stories of still remembered adventures. A restored car is beautiful, but the patina – that’s where the soul lives.”Yannick’s work with HEIZR Club has only served to reinforce this philosophy. It’s not just the cars that matter – it’s the people too. “Capturing a Speed Yellow 964 Turbo S Leichtbau in front of a weathered brick wall is pure visual poetry,” he says, “but it’s the conversations, the laughter and the shared obsessions that really tell the story.”

What is the HEIZR Club car community? The HEIZR Club is a Stuttgart-based classic car community that Yannick first joined as a passenger. “I brought my camera along [to events] and started capturing the vibe,” he recalls. The photos ended up on Instagram, where they quickly caught the attention of Felix, founder of the HEIZR Club. Soon afterwards, Yannick became the official in-house photographer.“HEIZR Club is Germany’s most casual classic car community,” says Yannick. “It brings together passionate people from all walks of life. It’s not about exclusivity or rarity. It’s about shared enthusiasm.”Working with HEIZR has taken Yannick across Germany to shoot legendary Porsche models in unforgettable settings. “It’s hard to choose just one,” Yannick says when asked about his favourite classic Porsche photo shoots. “The Carrera GT, a 964 Turbo S Leichtbau, the 356 ‘Knickscheibe’, the 959 Paris-Dakar driven by Jacky Ickx and the 911 GT1 in naked carbon – the list goes on,” says Yannick. However, one shoot stands out in particular – photographing a friend’s rare Porsche 944 in Pasadena Yellow on the beach at Rømø Island in Denmark, en route to the Petro Surf event at Sylt. “It was surreal. Drifting across the sand with the salty sea air filling the cabin and the car glinting against the northern sky. That’s the kind of memory you don’t forget.”

Memories are also not just created by the machinery, says Yannick. “Sometimes it’s the fresh coffee. Sometimes it’s a cold beer after the shoot. But mostly it’s the people,” he says. The power of Porsche design While Yannick is best known for his work capturing classic Porsche cars, he’s no stranger to the contemporary line-up either – cars, of course, that will themselves become classics in time. Working up close with cars from across the seven decades-plus of Porsche has given him a particularly strong appreciation of Porsche design.“Porsche knows its heritage. It doesn’t shy away from it – it builds on it,” says Yannick. “Every nut and bolt is engineered for excellence.” This balance of tradition and innovation is something he aims to get across in his work, whether its capturing the muscularity of a 992 GT3 RS or the curves of a 356 B Cabriolet.“There’s no other brand that does it quite like Porsche,” says Yannick.
