Their credo: may the best driver win. And perhaps the simplest definition of sportsmanship is also the most illuminating. It is a combination of experience and hunger for success, strategic thinking and intuition that make these competitions so exceptional. And a springboard for talent.

20 Porsche One-Make-Series worldwide. On 5 different continents. All with the same special feature: The teams start with exactly the same vehicle. With the latest 911 GT3 Cup constructed on the basis of the seventh generation of the 911, one of the most successful racing cars ever. 3.8-litre, flat six engine, 338 kW (460 hp) at 7,500 rpm. Or with the 911 GT3 Cup (type 997). Where are such vehicles at home? The race track naturally.

The teams are individually responsible for the set-up of the cars within the rules. Adherence to these rules is ensured by technical commissioners. This means that the performance and the flair of the driver and the team are the critical matters on the route to victory.

Only those who believe in themselves and for whom “quitting” is not part of their vocabulary can lay the foundation to a great story here on the race track – their very own great story. Anybody who can time a top sporting performance to one hundredth of a second will cause others to take notice. In qualifying, the times of the top 10 on the grid are often all within one second.

An example of ultimate willpower? Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber, who both started in different Porsche Carrera Cups and, by way of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, drove their way into the cockpit of the 919 Hybrid. Together with Nico Hülkenberg they shared driving duties this year in the Porsche 919 Hybrid with starting number 19. And 17 years after the last overall victory they achieved the incredible. They won the 24h of Le Mans. A historical victory: the 17th overall victory for Porsche at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

Adrenaline, yes, but always focused. To be able to strike a balance between the two it is certainly not a disadvantage that, for years now, the Porsche Cups have taken place as part of race weekends alongside first-class race series such as Formula 1 or the ‘Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters’ (DTM). With everything on the line and with the eyes of hundreds of thousands of motorsports fans watching worldwide, everybody knows the time has come. There is only one option: It’s now or never. The race is on!
