Porsche Training and Recruitment Center Asia presents its 2nd class of graduatesCommitted to assuring the future of underprivileged Filipino youth.

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Porsche Asia Pacific and PGA Cars, the official importer of Porsche in the Philippines, in cooperation with the Don Bosco Technical Institute, are proud to present the new class of graduates who are dedicated to continuing Porsche’s commitment to excellence and perfection as Porsche Service Mechatronic Technicians.

These highly qualified technicians help to meet the increasing demand for specialized technicians at Porsche Centres in the Asia Pacific and Middle East region.

The Porsche Training and Recruitment Center Asia (PTRCA) was set up in April 2008 in the Philippines, and is evidence of Porsche’s faith in the demand for qualified technicians, as well as the quality of technicians trained in the country, says Robert Coyiuto, Jr., Porsche Centre Philippines Principal. “This is the first Porsche facility of its kind outside Germany,” he added.

Filipino standard of service

Coyiuto explains that Porsche is no stranger to the Filipino standard of service because there are already a good number of Filipino technicians servicing Porsche cars not just in the Philippines but in other countries as well.

Coyiuto is confident, however, that with the Training and Recruitment Center in place, Porsche Centre Philippines and the dealerships in the Asia Pacific region will not run out of qualified technicians.

Partnering with Don Bosco

The Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) is dedicated to helping children and young people from socially underprivileged groups throughout the Philippines. Among other activities, the organization offers motivated young individuals basic technical training, in order to give them access to employment opportunities. It is precisely because of this that Porsche has decided to offer further assistance on top of their basic training, enabling them to gain more advanced and specialized skills for a period of six months at the PTRCA.

Established in the early 1970s, the DBTI Manpower Skills Training Center provides training and education
in automotive technology to disadvantaged but promising youth for a 10-month period, after which the trainees receive an on-the-job training in automotive companies, including Porsche Centre Philippines.

“With the Don Bosco Institute and Porsche, we have secured professional partners who will ensure young
people get the training that meets our high demands. By committing ourselves to this program, we are ensuring that Porsche will have enough technical specialists available in the growing markets,” says Coyiuto.

Raising the flag

Coyiuto explains that while it will be sad to see the Porsche Service Mechatronic Technicians leave for abroad, he is heartened by the fact that they are raising the flag for Filipino workers overseas. “This new breed of Porsche technicians is a source of pride not only for Porsche Centre Philippines but also for the country,” said Coyiuto.

Second class of graduates

To date, 58 students have been selected as PTRCA scholars. Of this, 32 students have graduated and are now working at various Porsche Centres across Asia and the Middle East. Porsche Centre Philippines cites the Filipino work values of loyalty, trustworthiness, resourcefulness and diligence, as well as English proficiency, as the main factors in influencing Porsche’s decision to set up the PTRCA in the country.
