Charging options
Where can I charge my Porsche?

Your Porsche can be easily charged in various everyday situations: at home, on the road and at your destination.

A range of Porsche charging equipment is available for charging at home. You will find the charging solution to suit your needs via the Porsche Charging Pre-Check at https://www.porsche.com/countries/charging-check . Contact your Porsche Centre for further information.

Which electrical sockets can I use to charge my Porsche?

You can charge your Porsche both at market-specific domestic and industrial electrical outlets. In order to charge with the greatest possible efficiency and shortest duration, it is recommended that you use an industrial electrical outlet.

Performing the online pre-checks (availability is country-dependent) will give you an initial overview of the specific situation in your own home.

A detailed analysis of your domestic infrastructure is created by an expert as part of the home check (availability is country-dependent). Further information is also available from your Porsche Centre.

Can the specified charging times vary?

Yes, the charging time is influenced by several factors. These include:
- the available power rating of the energy infrastructure
- the passenger compartment preconditioning
- the charge state and the temperature of the high-voltage battery
- the settings that were activated on the charger or energy manager

When charging at home, the customer-specific domestic installation is also an important factor.

With AC charging, the power output of the on-board charger installed in the vehicle makes a real difference.

The charging times can therefore differ significantly from the specified values.

The Porsche Charging Planner provides support here in helping you to plan charging, e.g. by preconditioning the battery before the charging operation, to achieve an optimal charging performance.

Charging at home
What charging equipment does Porsche offer for charging my vehicle at home and where can I buy it?

Porsche offers different charging equipment, e.g. the Porsche Mobile Charger, Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, Porsche Mobile Charger Plus and the Porsche Home Energy Manager as standard and optional equipment. In addition, different fitting options are available such as the charging dock or the Porsche compact charging pedestal. You can purchase these via the established sales channels, e.g. from your Porsche Centre.

What is the difference between the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, Porsche Mobile Charger Plus and the Porsche Mobile Charger?

The Porsche Mobile Charger, Porsche Mobile Charger Plus and the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect are chargers for vehicles with high-voltage batteries. They differ in terms of the charging performance and the supported functions.

The Porsche Mobile Charger Connect is operated via an easy-to-use touch display.  In combination with Porsche Home Energy Manager it protects your house connection from being overloaded (blackout protection) and supports intelligent charging functions. A comprehensive range of accessories is also available for the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, if required.

The Porsche Mobile Charger Plus can also be connected to the Home Energy Manager.

I want to be able to charge my Porsche at home. How can I find out if that is possible?

Using the Online Pre-Check, which is available depending on the relevant country, the essential prerequisites for using Porsche charging equipment are checked in your home. The Online Pre-Check is free-of-charge and can be easily performed, e.g. from your couch.

In order to obtain more detailed information, you can have your Porsche Centre arrange a home check (availability is country-dependent) by an external service partner. During this, your electrical infrastructure is checked and details regarding the installation of the equipment at your home can be agreed.

Are there legal framework conditions with which I must comply for the installation of domestic charging equipment?

The installation of domestic charging equipment can be considered a structural change.

We recommend that you coordinate with all parties involved before installation; these might include, e.g., your electricity supplier, your municipal authorities or housing community and, if required, your landlord.

A detailed analysis of your domestic infrastructure is created by an expert as part of the home check (availability is country-dependent). Further information is also available from your Porsche Centre.

What do I need the Porsche Home Energy Manager for?

The Porsche Home Energy Manager monitors the energy and power consumption in your home. It protects your house connection from an overload ("blackout protection") and makes it possible to use smart charging functions. This includes that your vehicle is automatically charged as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Smart charging works through the intelligent consideration of your electricity tariff, your installed photovoltaic system and other current consumers.

Can I connect the Porsche charging equipment to other energy management systems?

The charging equipment offered by Porsche is based on open standards. Compatibility with the energy management systems of third-party manufacturers can vary however, due to the sheer quantity of products available on the market. We recommend you use the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect and the Porsche Home Energy Manager in combination with the Porsche Taycan.

Can all Porsche chargers be connected to the Home Energy Manager?

No, currently only the Mobile Charger Connect and the Mobile Charger Plus can be connected to the Home Energy Manager.

What must I note during the commissioning and configuration of the Home Energy Manager?

You should have a Porsche recommended service provider or electrician perform the commissioning and configuration of the Home Energy Manager. To this end, a laptop or tablet is required as commissioning and configuration are performed via the Home Energy Manager web application. Also ensure that you have the WiFi password to hand. This is generally on the router. Access the web application by inputting the IP address into your browser. The IP address is saved in the letter containing access data. Please read and observe the Installation Manual enclosed with the device before installing and commissioning.

I have set price-optimised charging. Why is my invoice higher than expected?

In order to be able to use the price-optimised charging function, in addition to the setting in the Home Energy Manager you must also activate the charging timer in the vehicle. If you have not set the charging timer, your vehicle will automatically be charged at maximum power. In addition, without communication via the EEBus protocol, the corresponding charging functions cannot be executed. Ensure that both devices (Home Energy Manager and Mobile Charger Connect/Plus) are in the same network. Make sure that a two-way connection has been established. Both the Home Energy Manager and the Mobile Charger Connect/Plus must be paired with one another. For further information, please refer to the "EEBus" chapter in the Installation Manual and in the instructions for the web application.

What types of connection should be used between the Home Energy Manager and the Mobile Charger Connect/Plus?

Porsche recommends using a WiFi connection. If required, the WiFi signal strength can be improved by using a repeater. Ideally, the Home Energy Manager should be connected via Ethernet. Please note that faults can occur in the case of a connection via Power Line Communication (PLC), between the Home Energy Manager and the Mobile Charger Connect/Plus as a result of external devices or having too great a distance between the devices. In this case, bring both devices closer together while establishing the connection as a stronger signal is required for this. Once both devices are connected a weaker signal is sufficient. When the PLC signal strength is insufficient, an external PLC modem can be used. These generally have a larger chip and can thus communicate better via PLC.

What are the options for setting the current limitation?

There are two options for setting the current limitation:
1. The maximum charging current can be set in the web application of the Mobile Charger Connect/Plus, or on the device itself (static limitation).
2. When using the Home Energy Manager, the maximum current of the house connection or the sub-distribution unit, to which the Mobile Charger Connect/Plus is connected, can be specified in the web application of the Home Energy Manager.

Where can I find my access data for the Mobile Charger Connect/Plus and the Home Energy Manager if I lose the letter containing access data?

The access data that is valid on delivery, such as the preset PIN and the initial password, can also be taken from your My Porsche profile, as an alternative to the letter containing access data.

For further information, please contact your Porsche Centre.

Charging on the road
Can a passer-by disconnect the plug, while I am charging at a public charging point?

No, once plugged into the vehicle charge port, the charging plug is automatically detected by the vehicle and locked. The charging cable is secured against being disconnected and your Porsche is secured against being driven away.

Vehicle
How can I ensure that my Porsche is not completely discharged?

Normally, your vehicle will not discharge completely, instead it will inform you that the charge is low in good time. Pay attention to the instructions in the PCM and the instrument cluster.

In addition, your Porsche can suggest a route to a nearby charging point if the vehicle charge is low.

In everyday situations there are many options available to you to charge your Porsche, e.g. during breaks at fuel and service stations or while out shopping.

Must I always charge my Porsche completely?

Do I always have to fully charge my Porsche?

No. You do not always have to fully charge the high-voltage battery of your Porsche. Partial charging of your Porsche will not cause capacity loss (memory effect) and does not reduce the service life of the high-voltage battery.

In addition, the charging speed decreases as the charge state of the high-voltage battery increases. It may therefore even be useful to only charge the battery to approx. 80 % or until the required range is reached. Allowing it to discharge to 20% and charging it slowly to 80% also protects the

On what does the range of my Porsche depend?

The range is influenced by various factors, such as the driving style, comfort functions, aerodynamics and road conditions. The most important factor is your driving style: environmentally-aware and anticipatory driving behaviour promotes brake energy recovery and thereby increases the range of the vehicle. In addition, you can reduce the strength of your comfort functions such as the air-conditioning system and heating, and only fit add-on parts that influence the aerodynamics (e.g. roof boxes) when required.

What must I note in particular during cold weather?

As a result of the comfort functions used in cold weather, e.g. the heating, the range of your vehicle may be reduced. The use of the convenient preconditioning function during charging can minimise this result as the required heating power is provided by the power grid.

At low temperatures, the charging performance of your high-voltage battery can also be restricted. Using the Porsche Charging Planner (availability dependent on country) and the battery preconditioning can however warm the battery before the charging operation and thereby enable optimal charging conditions.

What must I be aware of when driving abroad?

Country-specific stipulations and approvals may restrict the use of charging equipment abroad. Consult the Driver's Manual and contact your Porsche Centre to learn if your equipment is suitable for the country you intend to visit or if you need additional equipment.

Can I use travel adapters when travelling abroad?

No, do not use extension cables, cable reels, multiple sockets or (travel) adapters to charge your vehicle.

You can purchase appropriate connecting cables (plugs) for this from your Porsche Centre, specifically for the relevant country.

What happens in the event of a power cut?

If, during an active charging operation (vehicle plug is plugged in), the charger is disconnected from the infrastructure (power supply is cut off), then the charger is switched off.

No entry is made in the error memory, as without power supply nothing can be saved.

If the vehicle plug is still plugged in when the power supply is restored, the charger starts quite normally and the charging operation continues.

My vehicle is not charging or not with the desired charging performance. What should I do?

If your vehicle is not charging or not with the desired charging performance, the following points, which could lead to restrictions in the charging process, should be checked:
- Was a charging timer activated?
- Was a charging profile created?
- Were local settings made on the charger, e.g. reduction of the charging performance to 50%?
- Were local settings made in the Home Energy Manager?

At low temperatures, the charging performance of your high-voltage battery can also be restricted. If the charging performance falls to below 6 A, the charging process stops and is not restarted automatically.

What must be observed when charging vehicles of other brands?

When using Porsche charging hardware to charge vehicles of other brands, the start of the charging process can take a little longer.
