Two Podiums for Team Jebsen in Dramatic Weekend Team Jebsen, Roundup – Rounds 3 & 4, June 1 - 3, 2012, Zhuhai International Circuit

Team Jebsen driver Rodolfo Avila of Macau notched up two podium finishes in Rounds 3 and 4 of the
The championship points earned from the second and third place finishes keep them very much in championship contention, and propelled the team from 8th to 4th on the leaderboard.
After a close-fought qualifying session, Team Jebsen lined up on the second row of the grid for the start of Round 3. Avila made a brilliant getaway as the lights went out, and was side by side, dicing for position with the car ahead. However, a rash move by a chasing car amongst the tightly-packed field led to a multiple-car accident, with the Team Jebsen
Luckily the car sustained only superficial damage, but the race was stopped and marshals scrambled to clear the track of more than 10 stranded cars.
At the re-start behind the Safety Car, Rodolfo again got away well and charged across the line in 2nd at the end of the shortened race.
The top eight reverse grid regulation for the start of Round 4 saw Team Jebsen line up on the 4th row of the grid, giving them a mountain to climb in order to make up places on a circuit which affords few overtaking opportunities. Also, Avila was mindful of the events in Round 3, and the importance of finishing in the points.
Starting the race on new tyres, Avila flew off the start and made up one place every lap in the first five. Having fought his way to 3rd place but at the expense of increased tyre wear, Avila wisely opted to settle for the 16 points for 3rd rather than risk his race in the concluding laps. He crossed the line to take his second podium finish of the weekend, and move up the all-important championship leaderboard.

Quotes from Team Jebsen
Rodolfo Avila, Team Jebsen Driver:
“It was a great weekend, particularly after our DNF in Shanghai. Two podiums is a good result for us.
In the first race, we were very, very lucky. I got a really good start and it was great, clean racing and then suddenly there was a big impact. A car went into my door, but it was only body damage and fortunately we were able to finish the race.
I got another great start in Round 4, and another fantastic battle on track. The car in front kept me back for a couple of laps, and after I got by, I closed the gap to the 2nd placed runner. I thought I could make a move into Turn 1, but I struggling a bit with tyres by this point so I had to back off. We can’t afford not to finish and throw away all those championship points.
It’s not easy to get through this competitive field, and we raced smart. We had a good car and good pace, and let’s see if we can take a win in Ordos!”
