Al Nabooda Racing duo aim to extend winning run in BahrainDubai team-mates target another flying start in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East

Clemens Schmid and Karim Al Azhari aim to extend a superb winning sequence at Bahrain International Circuit this weekend as Al Nabooda Racing begin their double title defence in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.

Between them Schmid, the individual drivers’ champion, and Al Azhari, have won each of the last six rounds of the GT3 Cup series to be staged in Bahrain, and they want to maintain that 100 per cent record in the opening race weekend of the new 2013-14 season.

“It’s been a very happy hunting ground for the both of us and we’re looking to keep the run going to give us a strong start to the season,” said Al Azhari, who recorded his maiden Porsche GT3 Cup victory in Bahrain in the final round of the 2012-13 campaign. “It’s a circuit we both know well and feel comfortable with, especially after our results there last season. We know it’s not going to be easy and that we’re the ones to beat after our success last season. But we’ve prepared well for the new season and can’t wait for it to get under way.”

Schmid, who won both Porsche GT3 Cup rounds staged in Bahrain two seasons ago, repeated that feat at the circuit in the opening race weekend last season as Al Nabooda Racing captured the team honours.
The talented young Austrian driver won again when the series returned to Bahrain for the last two rounds in April before securing the drivers’ crown 24 hours later.

Al Azhari’s victory in the final race of the season ensured Al Nabooda Racing brought the team championship back to Dubai for the first time.

“It was a fantastic effort by Clemens and Karim, and while we’re proud of what we achieved last season we’re not taking anything for granted this time,” said Vijay Rao, Al Nabooda Racing team manager.

“We worked very hard to become the top team in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, and we’re going to work even harder to hold on to the No.1 position.”

Success in the opening two rounds of the season on Friday and Saturday will give Al Azhari and Schmid a big psychological boost at the start of a season which also has its final race weekend in Bahrain next March.
