Junior Programme

A chance for young talents

The Porsche young driver concept, which began in 1997 with the first UPS Porsche Junior Team, is a successful model. Every one of the 19 junior racing drivers who raced with Porsche’s support as Porsche Junior in the one-make series, have made the grade as professional racing driver. Timo Bernhard (GER), Marc Lieb (GER), Patrick Long (USA), Michael Christensen (DEN) and Earl Bamber (NZL) are Porsche works drivers today.

The concept

The Porsche young driver concept is based on two modules sharing the common goal of training aspiring young talents to become professional racing drivers.

Module 1

Each season, one or two juniors are selected in a two-stage evaluation process for the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.

The selected candidates initially participate in a comprehensive series of fitness and ECG tests, which are carried out in cooperation with our sport medicine partner. The analysis of the results from this first stage leads to the selection of the finalists, who are then invited to stage 2 of the evaluation process – the driving part. Over the course of two assessment days, the drivers take turns at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car and complete a test programme developed specifically for the driving assessment. The best participant receives a contract as Porsche Junior and is sponsored to the tune of 150,000 Euro in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.

The selection of potential evaluation candidates for the Porsche Junior programme (module 1) can be made by the proactive invitation on the part of Porsche Motorsport or through a speculative application by potentially interested parties.

The following requirements must be fulfilled in order to apply to Porsche Motorsport:

- Your date of birth is between 1.01.1994 and 28.02.1998
- Proof of participation in a national or international entry level touring car and/or single-seater series
- Proof that you have not driven a full season in a Porsche Carrera Cup or a Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge or higher class GT series
- Proof of initial success in motorsport
- Fit to apply for an international C racing license

The application deadline for the 2015 talent evaluation is closed.

Module 2

Every year, the most successful drivers from the international Porsche one-make series are nominated by the respective Porsche Carrera Cup organisation and invited by Porsche Motorsport to a common assessment event.

Over the course of two days, the one-make series drivers try to set the fastest possible lap time as well as demonstrating their technical understanding and their analytical skills while setting up the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. The winner is sponsored with 200,000 Euro as Porsche Junior in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

In contrast to module 1, an application for the assessment process is not possible, the candidates can only be nominated by the respective Porsche one-make series organisation.

The support

The Porsche Juniors selected receive a sponsorship contract with Porsche AG. Each contract is valid for a season. In addition to the financial support, all Porsche Juniors receive support and advice comparable with that of the internationally successful Porsche works drivers. This programme includes fitness tests with constantly adjusted training schedules as well as media training and sponsor appointments. A Junior coach is on hand as advisor for the Juniors and accompanies the drivers on their way to becoming a professional racing driver.

The juniors are free to select their team in accordance with a list of criteria defined by Porsche AG. The remaining budget required to finance the respective programme is also the responsibility of the Junior driver.
