Porsche hands over the UPS Porsche-Junior Team to Manthey-RacingPorsche makes cups

Stuttgart. The UPS Porsche-Junior Team takes off into the 2006 motorsport season with a new team principal and a new squad. Porsche and main sponsor UPS handed Olaf Manthey (50) the responsibility for the activities of the team, which to now had been affiliated with Porsche’s race department in Weissach and had won five drivers’ championships in the Carrera Cup Deutschland since 1998.

Manthey Racing prepares two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup vehicles for German drivers Lance David Arnold and Jan Seyffarth at its own Nürburgring-based race headquarters to contest the Carrera Cup Deutschland and Porsche Michelin Supercup series. Porsche continues to support the two 19-year-old emerging talents as junior works drivers.

Helmut Greiner, Manager of the Carrera Cup Deutschland and one of the initiators of the UPS Porsche-Junior Team: “We chose Olaf Manthey because he is one of our most successful customers and partners. This step was necessary due to the worldwide boom in Porsche makes cups and the extensive support of customer racing – from GT series through to the RS Spyder project – and our capacity is fully utilised.”

Olaf Manthey (50) claimed many successes with Porsche sportscars as a race driver and team boss. Amongst other victories, in 1990 he won the first championship title of the newly-founded Carrera Cup. From 1997 to 2000 Manthey Racing secured the team and driver championships in the Porsche Pirelli Supercup.
