Porsche starts the new financial year successfully in North AmericaSports cars drive growth – no discounts for the Cayenne

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, started successfully into the new financial year in North America – its most important market by far. In August 2005, the first month of the 2005/06 financial year, 2,894 vehicles were delivered to customers in the USA and Canada. Against the comparable figure of 2,698 one year ago, this is a plus of 7 percent. At the same time, these are the second-best August sales figures ever generated by Porsche in North America.

Growth was driven by the new sports car generations, which again met with strong customer response. The Boxster generated the strongest increase, with deliveries up 172 percent to 661 units. 1,048 units of the 911 were delivered, a plus of 16 percent. August unit sales for the Carrera GT, the high-performance sports car, increased to 31 (previous year: 25 vehicles).

1,154 units of the Cayenne were delivered (minus 24 percent). The decline is largely due to the fact that Porsche prefers to give up market share than jeopardise its brand image and the value of vehicles already delivered by granting discounts, a practice followed by many competitors.
