Porsche extends Cayenne assembly plant in LeipzigInvestment volume of EUR 6.7 million – Completion in November 2004

Stuttgart/Leipzig. Porsche Leipzig GmbH, Leipzig, today commenced construction on the extension of its assembly plant. An extension with surface space of 3,600 m² will be added to the existing 15,000 m² production hall. The additional space will enable the further optimisation of the production process and the final inspection. The investment volume for the extension of the plant totals EUR 6.7 million. The work is to be completed by November 2004.

Porsche has been assembling its sporty vehicle, the Cayenne, in its Leipzig plant since August 2002 and the high-performance sports car Carrera GT since September 2003. The Cayenne has since developed to become the growth driver of the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer. While a total of 24,925 Cayenne cars was produced in the 2002/2003 (31 July) financial year, the number of cross-country vehicles produced in the first six months of the current financial year 2003/2004 was 19,116. Overall, Porsche has 370 employees in its Leipzig plant, while the supplier companies also located in the area have generated 260 positions.

The extension commenced is neither connected with a direct increase of production capacity nor with an increase in employee numbers.
