Stuttgart. Heading to the third and decisive qualifying session at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the best Porsche 911 RSR in the GTE-Pro class lies fourth in the provisional starting line-up. Porsche Team Manthey’s #92 winning car from last year tackles the 82nd running of the long distance classic on 14/15 June with Porsche works drivers Marco Holzer (Germany), Frédéric Makowiecki (France) and Richard Lietz (Austria). The number 91 Porsche 911 RSR driven by factory pilots Joerg Bergmeister (Germany), Patrick Pilet (France) and Nick Tandy (Great Britain) is still on fifth.
In the GTE-Am class, Dempsey Racing Proton currently sits fourth as the best Porsche customer squad. Sharing the cockpit of the number 77 911 RSR is Porsche works driver Patrick Long and his American compatriots Patrick Dempsey and Joe Foster. Normally at the WEC races, two pilots must qualifying a car, but in Le Mans only the fastest time of one pilot determines the starting position for the race.
The third and most critical qualifying session has been extended by 30 minutes and will run from 21.30 hrs until midnight on Thursday. The race on Saturday takes off at 15.00 hours.
