J.D. Power Study in 2018: Porsche Ranks Highest in IQS and APEAL All-new Cayenne tops the annual “Large-size Luxury SUV” segment

Shanghai. The world’s leading market research company J.D. Power recently released two studies: “2018 China Initial Quality Study (IQS)” and “2018 China Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study (APEAL)”. Porsche ranks highest again in the segment of luxury vehicle segment with the lowest number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100), topping the 2018 IQS and the IQS rankings for the fifth consecutive year. In addition, the 70-year-old sports car manufacturer takes the first place with 800 points in luxury vehicle segment in the 2018 APEAL study. Additionally, the third generation Cayenne topped the “Large-size Luxury SUV” segment.

As an international professional research organization, J.D. Power’s study is known for its independence and objectivity. Its study has high authority and credibility within domestic and international automotive industries, and the IQS study is regarded as a seal of approval regarding the quality of a vehicle. By being awarded both the IQS and APEAL awards, Porsche has demonstrated its industry-leading position and strong product strength.

These two studies were based on real feedback from 33,404 owners of new vehicles purchased from June 2017 to May 2018, covering 21 market segments, including 285 passenger models from 77 brands, and the data collection and analysis was conducted in 71 major cities across China from December 2017 to July 2018. The IQS study aims to measure the number of quality problems of Chinese car owners within 2 to 6 months after purchasing a new car, and the APEAL study is to demonstrate the satisfaction of vehicle design, content, layout and performance. These two studies cover a comprehensive range, including vehicle exterior, seats, driving performance, air conditioning systems, operation systems, vehicle interior, audio / communication / entertainment / avigation, engine / transmission systems, etc. therefore ensuring that the data has a strong reference.

In the China Initial Quality Study (IQS), the overall quality score is expressed by the average problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower number signifying higher quality. The average number of the luxury vehicle segment is 89 PP100 in 2018, and Porsche once again topped the study for the fifth consecutive year with the lowest score of 69 PP100, far ahead of the second place with 82 PP100. Quality has always been a top priority for Porsche throughout the product concept, design, production and retail phases. 70% of all Porsche 911 produced so far are still on the road, demonstrating Porsche’s unparalleled product quality.

As an industry benchmark for a vehicle’s charm and satisfaction, the China Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study (APEAL) is measured on a 1000 point scale. Porsche came top again in the luxury vehicle segment with 800 points, far ahead of the luxury vehicle brands average score of 737 points.

The all-new Cayenne, which topped the annual “Large-size Luxury SUV” segment, has seen an unprecedented demand since its national launch in March this year. The successful Porsche model has been newly developed to combine even more of the typical Porsche performance with excellent everyday practicality. Its powerful turbo engines, new eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox, new chassis systems and innovative display and control concept with total connectivity take both sport and comfort to the next level.

“The results of J.D. Power study demonstrate that customers recognize the quality of Porsche’s brand and its products, and it urges us on,” said Dr. -Ing Jens Puttfarcken, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche China. “We will continue to devote ourselves to delivering the perfect sports car of the best quality to Chinese customers, and allow more customers to experience the unique charm of Porsche.”
