“Dreams of Colour, Dreams for the Future” — The Fifth Porsche “Empowering the Future” Art Contest Kicks Off in ChongqingPorsche reaffirms commitment to supporting youth education in China

Shanghai/Chongqing. Porsche China and the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SFAI)announced today that the fifth Porsche “Empowering the Future” Art Contest has officially started on June 1st, with works collected on October 9th and 10th to be awarded at a ceremony in late October at the Chongqing Contemporary Art Museum.

This year’s art contest, “Dreams of Colour, Dreams for the Future”, again highlights the ongoing efforts of Porsche China to provide an outstanding platform to recognise and reward young art talent so as to support the youth development in China. Notable themes from this year’s works include the yearning for a brighter future, the determination to pursue one’s dream and the expression of artistic inspiration.

SFAI students may submit works in all medium forms to attend the contest, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, and photography. In order to further unleash students’ creativity, new forms of artistic expression, including digital media, are also welcomed by this year’s contest. The top three winners will be awarded cash prizes and a trip to Germany, where they will visit some of the country’s most renowned art institutions as well as the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

Porsche and SFAI have been in collaboration since 2010, the year of the first “Empowering the Future” Art Contest, to nurture China’s young artistic talent. Works received as part of the 2013 “Empowering the Future” Art Contest demonstrated the artists’ passion for life and consistent pursuit of art. First Prize winner Zhang Yan’s painting, “Disappearance”, vividly presented the rich imagination of the painter through an amazing mix of colours on canvas. Second Prize winner Feng Zhizhi’s work, “Gift,” was painted with a unique technique combining hand sketching and computer colorization, depicting a Cayenne which transports dreams, wishes and hopes. Third Prize winner Yang Yanqian’s work, “Crossing,” showed a symbolic deer, whose horns were decorated with tender flowers and fierce snakes, representing the awakening vitality of spring. All those works distinctly illustrated the youth’s view on a hopeful future.

“It has been our privilege to work with Porsche China over the past five years,” said Prof. Luo Zhongli, president of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.“The contest provides our students with an invaluable opportunity to go abroad and see masterpieces in Germany. I am personally grateful to Porsche China for its great support for the SFAI and for China’s young talent. We are looking forward to creating more and even better works during this year’s ‘Empowering the Future’ Art Contest.”

“The support of SFAI for our programme is of great importance and deserves our appreciation,” commented Mr. Deesch Papke, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche China. “We are proud that our ‘Empowering the Future’ programme, in addition to our assistance for underprivileged children, contributes to nurture artistic talent. I look forward to seeing the fantastic works at this year’s Art Contest!”
