Porsche Design Is a luxury brand with particular emphasis on functional, timeless and purist design. All products are designed at the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See (Austria) and are characterised by their clear, functional design language, careful selection of materials as well as high-quality workmanship linking traditions of craftsmanship with the latest technology.
The Porsche Design brand was established in 1972 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The designer of the legendary Porsche 911 enjoyed the reputation of being a functionalist. When the then chief designer left the Sports Car company in 1972, he founded his own luxury brand: Porsche Design.
"If you think about the function of an object, the form sometimes takes shape by itself," was one of his guiding principles. First of all, he designed his products at the Porsche Design Studio in Stuttgart, before relocating to Zell am See in Austria in 1974. The very first product from Porsche Design already caused a major stir. In the first year of its existence, the Studio presented the world's first completely matt black watch, the legendary Chronograph I, which caused a sensation in the watchmaking industry and was regarded as absolutely revolutionary.
At the same time, a large number of industrial products, domestic appliances and consumer goods were designed for internationally renowned clients under the brand name "Design by F. A. Porsche", one example being the tram used in the city of Vienna. Today, the Porsche Design Studio is one of the best-known design houses in the world and has won more than 190 awards for an unmistakable design language that it has made its very own. The products from Porsche Design are sold all over the world in Porsche stores, franchise stores, shop-in-shops, high-quality department stores, exclusive retail outlets and through the official online shop.
