Good to knowCommon myths about electric carsThere are a lot of myths associated with the switch to electric cars. However, due to rapid progress, driving electric is easier than ever and many myths are long outdated. Which ones exactly? Find out more here.

Myth #1: Charging stations are hard to find.

The My Porsche App makes finding public charging stations easy. The Porsche Charging Planner in your vehicle automatically integrates convenient charging stops along your planned route to make your journey as pleasant as possible.

Myth #2: Charging takes much longer than refuelling.

With 800-volt architecture and the latest battery cell technology, Porsche electric vehicles can charge remarkably quickly, meaning the difference is smaller than you might think. Since the charging process, unlike refuelling, does not need to be monitored, it also offers freedom, allowing you to conveniently charge while shopping or working. More time to breathe also leads to greater safety on long journeys. And with home charging solutions, you rarely charge on the road in everyday life.

Myth #3: There are not enough charging options.

When considering charging options, fast-charging stations often come to mind first, and their numbers continue to grow. At the same time, charging infrastructure is expanding in private settings such as retail and office parking lots, with many employers now offering workplace charging for added convenience With Porsche Charging Service, we provide access to a growing network of charging points across Canada. This includes Porsche Destination Charging partners, as well as our own infrastructure, such as Porsche Centre fast chargers.

Myth #4: The payment process can be confusing.

Myth #5: Charging is complicated.

With Porsche, charging is as fast and effortless as the push of a button. Once authenticated, you can charge at any time at any charging point within the Porsche charging network. The charging process can be started seamlessly through Plug & Charge at compatible charging stations. Through the My Porsche App, you can also manually activate a charging session and check the current charging status of your sports car at any time, no matter where you are.

Charging technologyThe key to convenient charging.Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles use two types of charging plugs: For AC and DC charging. AC charging for plug-in hybrids – and AC and DC charging for all-electric models. The new generation of the Cayenne can even be charged wirelessly at home, if desired.

Charging plug compatibility.

Our plug‑in hybrid models are equipped with an AC charging socket. Our all‑electric models feature two charging sockets, one on each side of the vehicle. The AC charging socket is located on one side, while the opposite side supports both AC and DC fast charging — providing convenient access depending on the charging scenario, without the need to awkwardly route cables around the vehicle. For DC fast charging, all‑electric Porsche models are compatible with CCS connectors or NACS stations when using a Porsche NACS DC adaptor, available as an accessory.

This type of plug is used at AC charging stations (alternating current). Since the battery of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle can only accept direct current (DC), alternating current (AC) is converted in the car during the charging process.

CCS (DC) charging plug.

This type of plug is used at fast-charging stations (DC charging stations). At these charging stations, alternating current (AC) is converted into direct current (DC) and relayed to the battery of the electric vehicle.

STATE OF CHARGE (SoC).

The ‘State of Charge’ (SoC) is the battery charging condition of an electric battery. It is calculated in relation to the maximum capacity of the battery and is usually expressed as a percentage. So 0% corresponds to an empty battery and 100% to a full battery. The SoC indicates how much range the vehicle has.

The SoC also influences the charging speed. If the SoC is below 60%, the vehicle will charge quickly. If the SoC is below 30%, it will charge even more quickly. From about 60%, battery charging slows down significantly. This is the case with all fully-electric vehicles. But a Porsche is still a sports car at the charging station. The Macan, for example, is capable of accessing over 200 kW of charging output up to about 55% state of charge¹. For everyday use, we recommend charging your electric Porsche to around 80%. This is the fastest, most efficient method – and it is also better for the battery.
