The experience of flying
If you actually need to get somewhere, a hot-air balloon is a fairly impractical vehicle. You can't really steer it, and it only travels as fast as the wind blows. But if you simply want to enjoy the experience of flying, there's nothing quite like it. Many people describe flying in a hot-air balloon as one of the most serene, enjoyable activities they've ever experienced.

Prices The total cost is 125 Euro/pp (Monday-Thursday) and 135 Euro/pp (Friday-Sunday), including the flight, insurance coverage, champagne and a personal gift and certificate.

Practical
Flights are scheduled twice a day, every day throughout the year. But hot-air ballooning is an outdoor activity which relies entirely upon light winds and good weather conditions. Your safety and pleasure is our primary concern and this means flying only in good weather conditions, so be patient. Atlantic Ballooning flies from several sites in Belgium, our main launch site is just a 5-10 mins drive from Ghent.
Allow 4 hours for the round trip and please note that ballooning is a treat to be savoured not rushed. Each flight is different and timings vary. Flight duration is approximately 1 hour, during which you are free to take photographs or just relax and enjoy the adventure. No special clothing is required, just dress as if you are going for a walk in the countryside. Good stout shoes are recommended as the balloon may well land in a farmers field.

  • The arrival time is 1 to 1 1/2 hours before take off. We fly at the beginning and end of the day when the air is stable, thermal activity caused by the sun heating the ground causes instability during the day.
  • A flight briefing will be given covering the days meteorological report, expected flight path, approaching the balloons and expected time of arrival back. A separate briefing will be given by the pilots prior to take off advising safe conduct during the flight.
  • Guests will be invited to assist with inflating the balloons, this usually takes about 30 mins.
  • Once we have landed you are welcome to help the crew pack up the balloon and equipment, before we have a celebratory glass of champagne and return to the launch site. The champagne incidentally, is part of the tradition of ballooning, the historical story is that the Montgolfière brothers, the first balloonists, used to give the peasants champagne when they landed to show that the balloon was of human origin and not piloted by devils or extra terrestrial beings.

and ... Don't forget to bring your camera and several times the film as you'd expect to use!
