The right version
Experience the only correct road position: the original one.
In order to preserve the original driving experience, two versions are available: one each for the 993 and the 993 Turbo/sports chassis.
The Porsche 993 is an original. It's not just its looks and character that are so impressive, but above all its driving characteristics. This model was always designed for comfort as well as sportiness. And comfort is something that you shouldn't have to do without it.
However, there was a problem with defective shock absorbers: The genuine parts used in series production for the respective chassis were no longer available. So, they were reissued by Porsche Classic – and improved. After all, modern technology enables us to strike the balance between having an even more sensitive setup and maintaining the original sporty yet comfortable design. Nothing was left to chance with this new edition: Porsche developers – who test and approve current series models – worked closely with the shock absorber experts from Bilstein, who were involved in equipping the Porsche 993 RS back in the 90s.
The result is a technology that combines authenticity, the latest knowledge and the highest Porsche standards. Because every vintage and classic Porsche car should, of course, not only move quickly, but also safely – even at the limit. Every Porsche 993 can achieve peak performance once more, especially when combined with modern N-rated tyres that have been tested and approved for classic Porsche cars.
Replacing the shock absorbers means that the classic gets its original road holding back – long into the future. The system of single-tube absorbers has low wear, which is achieved by the special friction bearings inside the absorbers with a clever constant lubrication system.
In order to compensate for the considerable lateral forces on the suspension strut when cornering at high speed, the front axle setup was changed to upside-down technology together with single-tube gas pressure shock absorbers. The piston rod is now supported at the bottom of the shock absorber. The damping cartridge of the working cylinder, which also contains the gas pressure cushion, protrudes at the top.
The single-tube gas pressure shock absorber is installed in the conventional position: chrome-plated damping rod at the top, gas pressure cushion at the bottom. Just as we've learned over decades on racetracks all around the world. However, a whole new way of thinking was involved in establishing the damper characteristics – bundles of small round steel plates were stacked together and fitted in the damper as valve bodies. The material composition? Well, that’s a secret.

Please note that the shock absorbers must always be replaced on both sides of the axle at the same time, or even – depending on the vehicle equipment – on both the front and rear axles.
