No Carrera models were produced between the model years 1978 and 1983. The only naturally aspirated engine model during this period was the 911 SC.
Surrounds and door handles
In contrast to the 911/911 S, the window surrounds and door handles on the Carrera models were in anodised Black.
Wheels
Forged 15"" Fuchs alloy wheels were fitted as standard on the 911 Carrera. From model year 1989, 16"" wheels were standard.
Exterior mirrors
The exterior mirrors of the 911 Carrera models were initially chrome-plated. From model year 1976, larger, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors painted in the vehicle colour were installed.
Engines
The displacement of the 911 Carrera engine was increased several times during the production period of the G model and the performance of these engines varied.
MY 1974–75 – Displacement: 2.7 litres; power: 210 PS
MY 1975–77 – Displacement: 3.0 litres; power: 200 PS
MY 1984–89 – Displacement: 3.2 litres, power: 207–231 PS
Bodyshell
The Carrera bodyshell was slightly wider on the rear wings than that on the 911 and 911 S.
From model year 1984, Carrera models can be identified by the side indicator lights on the front wings.
From model year 1984, the 911 Carrera was optionally available with a polyurethane (PU) front spoiler and a flat rear wing with a Black hard-rubber border specially developed for this model.
Headlight rings
The headlight rings of the 911 Carrera were initially chrome-plated, but were painted in the vehicle colour from model year 1976.
