Porsche has enjoyed many successes in sports car racing over the years, but no one model has dominated road racing to the extent of the venerable 962. With over 50 wins in IMSA's prestigious GTP class and numerous international victories, the 962 is considered to be one of the most successful race cars ever produced. Combining a beautiful, well-engineered chassis with a proven engine of outstanding reliability, Porsche produced a race car that endeared itself to drivers, crews, and fans alike. The infatuation with the 962 continues today in vintage racing where many examples are regularly campaigned and consistently finish in victory circle. These current successes attribute to the Porsche engineers whose vision created the 962.
However, no matter how well engineered a race car may be, there is always room for improvement and a need for maintenance. The personnel at Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) are the very same people who ensured the success of the nearly all 962s competing during the height of IMSA racing. Engine development and maintenance overseen by PMNA director, Alwin Springer and performed by Steve Becker and Eric Bloss, are what 962 teams relied on to win four Daytona 24 Hour, four 12 Hours of Sebring, and over forty other IMSA races. With a vast background in long distance and sprint race engine development, the PMNA staff can custom tailor an engine to meet your specific needs.
In depth, "hands-on experience" sets PMNA apart from all others offering service for the 962. Combine this with a large inventory of new or serviceable used parts and one realizes that there is no other facility, excluding Weissach, that has 962 background equal to PMNA. Whether the 962 vintage racer is looking for that hard to find original part, an engine rebuild, or returning the car to original configuration, the PMNA staff has the knowledge and expertise necessary to satisfy the customer.
We are currently working on several projects to provide assistance to owners competing in vintage races. In addition to the daily shop activity in Santa Ana, CA, PMNA representatives are planning to attend selected vintage races to provide technical assistance. Additionally, a 962 registry is being created to track current owners and pertinent chassis information. PMNA can also provide inspections for those interested in purchasing a 962 or other select race cars.
