911 GT3 RSR (GT2 class)

The 911 GT3 RSR was developed specifically for 24-hour races, and for long-distance events like those in the Le Mans Series. Apart from the sheer performance of the new 911 GT3 RSR (Type 997), its outstanding qualities include phenomenal endurance, as its victories in the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring, Le Mans and Spa Francorchamps have already demonstrated during its first year of racing.

The 911 GT3 RSR has undergone further development for the 2008 season. The aerodynamics of the weight-optimized 911 GT3 RS (Type 997, road version) have been improved by widening the body with carbon and Kevlar body parts. The 3.8 litre 6-cylinder boxer engine unleashes 465 horsepower at 8400 rpm. Power is delivered to the road via a new transmission which incorporates insights gained during development of the transmission for the RS Spyder. To round off this package of measures, the chassis has been reengineered and adapted.

Once again in the 2008 season, many teams with high-calibre drivers at the wheels of their 911 GT3 RSR thoroughbreds will be on the starting grid at the LMS fixtures and, in some cases, will also be in the line-up at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Teams meriting special mention are IMSA Performance Matmut, Felbermayr Proton and Farnbacher Racing, with the Porsche works drivers Richard Lietz, Marc Lieb and Richard Westbrook at the wheel respectively.
