Late in 2010, Porsche Motorsports North America Inc. and The L.S. Starrett Company announced a partnership agreement designating Starrett as the official supplier of PMNA for precision measurement technologies.
Starrett supplies the Porsche team with precision measuring tools that provide a wide variety of technical procedures to inspect and evaluate Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. With the very close tolerances engineered into race car components and the precise measurements needed to extract the top performance from the chassis and the drive train, this partnership with Starrett makes a significant contribution to the Porsche racing effort.
In addition to providing precision measuring tools from a very broad range of catalog products, Starrett will continue to develop custom-engineered measuring solutions to meet special requirements. With more than a half century of creating innovative custom solutions, the application of Starrett methodology to unique measurement applications gives Porsche an advantage in their fiercely competitive sport.
One of the first custom engineered tools Starrett developed for Porsche was the Ride Height Gage. This gage is used under the car to measure from the surface where the tire sets up to buttons built into the chassis of the car. It is unique in that it offers two measuring units easily swapped out by hand, as needed, for a fast, simple and exceptionally accurate result. Compared to other products, the Starrett Ride Height Gage has a stiffer measuring axis, hardened surfaces, easy adjustment to measure width at different inspection points and operates flawlessly in all weather conditions.
In performance motorsports, Porsche has long been the standard by which others are measured. Similarly, Starrett is a leader in precision measuring tools and has been for well over a century. The partnership between Porsche and Starrett is a great match for both companies.
